Cops are taught the cruiser is a coffin. Being behind the wheel is actually a very vulnerable position when confronted by an attacker. Driving away is the only effective defense, but if someone’s in front, you have to be willing to run them over.

It's a coffin to get shot while sitting there. But, a vehicle is a great tool to move people out of the way.
