There is no way to sugarcoat this: At Sunday nights presidential debate, Donald Trump threatened to throw Hillary Clinton in jail if he wins the presidency. This threatening to jail ones political opponents is how democratic norms die.
The exchange happened during a discussion of the controversy over Hillary Clintons private email server. Trump began by decrying Clintons conduct which, according to the FBI, was quite bad but not illegal. He then proposed appointing a special prosecutor to investigate her, and warned Clinton that, if he were president now, youd be in jail:
TRUMP: I'll tell you what. I didn't think I'd say this, and I'm going to say it, and hate to say it: If I win, I'm going to instruct the attorney general to get a special prosecutor to look into your situation because there's never been so many lies, so much deception A very expensive process, so we're going to get a special prosecutor because people have been, their lives have been destroyed for doing one-fifth of what you've done. And it's a disgrace, and honestly, you ought to be ashamed.

This is so far beyond normal that its hard to even know where to start.
In democracies, we respect peoples rights to disagree with each other. When one candidate wins a presidential election, the loser returns to private life or another government position. In some cases, former rivals become close friends. George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton, who defeated Bush in the 1992 election, travel together and have spent decades jointly raising money to aid the victims of natural disasters.
They dont get sent to jail, because we believe that political disagreement should be legal.
Donald Trump doesnt seem to care about all that.

Give Zackie a piece of your mind. :)
I will give the establishment a piece of my mind on election day.
Definitely the face of a nancy boy.
I watch CNN but not today. My blood pressure can’t handle it.
Another stupid presstitute spewing bullshit against the wall to see what sticks....
Trump would bring charges before a grand jury and hopefully prosecution to have her and husband tried for criminal acts not political acts ..... public trial , verdict, appeals process etc from a judicial system not infected by the clintonista cartel.
Dear Presstitutes ....we are a REPUBLIC !
NOT a SOCIALIST DEMOCRACY !
We are WAY beyond the normal already. The Democrat Party has transmitted to its constituency that they are above the law. Thus, you have incidents like Ferguson and the ones that followed. We now have people attacking and killing policemen on a regular basis. What were you saying about Democracy, sir? Who were you saying is endangering it? Have the comments by Obama and Hillary escalated the crisis we are facing in the nation? Who would return us to a rule of law? For instance, would black Democrat leadership return us to a democratic form of government or to despotic, tyrannical rule?
She doesn’t swing that way so, Joe Biden coming onto her is shocking.
If Trump wins the election, Hillary is no longer his political opponent. She would just be some dried up old hack looking for a diaper change.
That is a good explanation.
If I did what she did I’d be in jail, and nobody would be saying that putting me there was a threat to democracy.
Someone else who gets that.
I was so furious with Bush when he did that.
Everyone else... eh no big deal. Hell yes it was.
I niminate Joseph di Genova.
Perhaps so, or his dad’s position.
yes I think you are right....I bet that when it looks like there is no way Hillary can win that we will see the attempts on trumps life. because we all no about the Clinton body count.
This is a dangerous road to go down. Unless one is 100% sure one is going to win threatening the other side like this might come back to hurt.
GREAT line, not so sure that should Clinton win it will have good in the long run.
