Will somebody please explain to me how this can be? Trump draws tens of thousands to an event, Clinton draws a couple of hundred. The polls show Clinton ahead of Trump by 5 to 15 points. My wife and I argue about this all the time watching the news. I would think that Trump would be 20 points ahead, she says no. Her reason is people that go to the events do not answer the polls.
Thank you.
I ALMOST used, ‘Better Call Saul,’ LOL!
We need to get the vote out for Trump!
+1
I hate to say this, but for most people, the only way to convince someone of the opposing side that Trump will win is to WAIT 32 MORE DAYS, as hard as that may be.
People don’t want to go see Hillary, or listen to her talk. But they will vote for her over Trump any day.
Do not argue politics with your wife. Nod agreeably when she speaks, then change the subject. And, whatever you do, never win an argument with your wife. Gracefully lose. Apologize and change the subject. You will live a long, happy and married life.
“Let the Wookie win.”
Save yourself the trouble and repeat after me - My wife is right. (smile)
Oct. 6, a new poll conducted by the independent Quinnipiac University found that Clinton currently leads Trump by 45 to 40 percent in a four-way race.
Ah ha! That’s what we need. Another poll.
One that measures how many marriages have been dissolved over this years election.
Maybe Juan Williams, Geraldo and Meagain Kelly can discuss this for 4 hours. ;(
Okay, as long as it’s not being hit on the head lessons.
I only argue over facts, so arguing over an election or a football game that isn’t going to happen for another month is pointless. Just my two cents.
And yet high-profile Democrats have spent more time campaigning in PA over the last few weeks than in any other state. That tells an important story. In many states, Trump has a lot of appeal among registered Democrats.
It's quite possible that all of Hillary's supporters know who they're going to vote for, and don't need to go out to hear her speak. Perhaps their schedules don't allow it; perhaps they're all at work or at school.
Still, Obama seemed to draw large crowds, as did Bill Clinton, two previous Presidents. Read into it as you will; the only poll that counts is the one held in November.
1) Event attenders are the most motivated-—but their vote still only counts as much as the least-motivated, off the cuff voter on election day.
2) Event attenders often attend more than one event, thus are “double dippers.”
3) ALL the event attendees put together in one state might amount to 100,000 people, but in FL you have 11 MILLION voting.
Now, the good news is that for the most part, an unmotivated electorate will NOT go get the other 90% either through phone banks or walking or contributing. (I’m a terrible door knocker, so I give a lot.) I think it’s unrealistic to think that on voting day Cankles completely UNmotivated base will turn out at anywhere near the rate of the Republicans, and I think you see that in the R leads in all of the absentees in FL, OH, and the massive drop-off of absentees in IA where Dems usually vote much more heavily as absentees.
I understand both arguments. Personally, I think the rallies exist for two main reasons: energize the existing base to go knocking on doors, etc, and for LOCAL media coverage that makes an end run around the national news organizations. Local news HAS to cover the events, and their format (without “commentators”) means that Trump gets his message out unfiltered. Moreover, these events usually get picked up by adjoining regions/states so it’s like a massive ad buy.
Tell your wife that I’ve been polled three times this election and answered that I’m voting for Hillary each time.
Okay I confess. There actually is no argument. My wife and I have been happily married for over 35 years and the only real argument we have ever had was which cruise ship to go on (and we picked a different one). I only said argument to call attention to the thread. And it worked. THANK YOU ALL.
Incidentally she always gets her way.
I was very interested in what people would say about the vast difference in rally attendance and polls. Again thank you all. I do think it is because of three things. 1st no cell phones responders. 2nd Refusal to participate in a poll (and that includes us). 3rd rigged polls.
We both are voting Trump (and as many times as we can so there you friggin Dims).
Before the conventions, I was getting polled regularly—sometimes multiple times a day.
Since the convention, I have only been pllled 2 times—the last time was last night. Only one questions-—Who am I voting for for President?
I believe that there is a quiet majority out there that will show up & vote for Trump. I often put up political signs, but with all the vandalism this year, I won’t do so. I live rural, but vandalism is vandalism. I don’t need loose livestock because someone cuts my fences.
