As far as I am concerned, in my lifetime, the Helmet Law in NH started this downhill slide of overreach by government...like Mandatory seat belts” “forced evacuation”...when they use “public good” or the more evil twin “because it will cost the taxpayers” control over our lives. My family used to live in a storm zone and I can’t say how many wasted weekends we had boarding, unboarding or driving to and from...in traffic...until we finally started making our own decisions to go or stay. No one got hurt, thankfully, but if they had it was our choice. Darwin would have approved.

This really takes the cake in irresponsible reporting. Every news cast is hyped like it is the end of the world on a daily basis. How much can people stomach? At some point everyone just tunes these bastards out.
It’s a hurricane. It’s Florida. They’ve dealt with them before. People there can handle it.

It's a very well organized storm with a closed eye wall. Last I heard it was back up to a category 4. Even off the coast it could be deadly, however, it will not kill everyone. But the potential would be there for you and/or one or more family members to be among those that did perish.
Just as everyone did not die in Andrew, which made landfall as a category 5, but it was several long hours of hell for those that did survive. Believe me.
Then the aftermath can be just as devastating, because there is no place to get anything. Even money, not that it will do you any good anyway. Nothing is open for miles around. Movement in a vehicle, if you are lucky enough to have one still operating, is extremely hard and always limited. In many cases it is impossible, because of debris in the roadways. Any provisions you had may have been destroyed by the storm depending on how hard you were hit. It may be several days before you even have a place where you can sleep, not just hours.
The one good thing about a hurricane that stays off the coast and does not make landfall the winds will be somewhat diminished as the winds on the eastern side of the eye wall are the strongest winds of the hurricane. So they would remain out in the ocean. The bad thing is that by not making landfall the hurricane remains more intact.
But with a storm of this size it is prudent to get the heck out of dodge. Material things can be replaced. Life cannot.

Actually all the “catastrophes” the media report cause less damage than the media cause. It is the media that we should fear , criticize and battle(with words and truth exposing the media not violence)
Just 1 example . It was the media who imposed Obama on us and how many homeless (dead) and victims of crimes by illegals has obama caused.
The media seek to impose total socialism/communism on us and look at what socialism is doing to the people of Venezuela starvation etc. what it did to every socialist experiment country.

Sheppard Smith is a blithering idiot. If you are above the level of the storm surge you will survive if in a well built structure. Been there done that in South Louisiana 1965 Hurricane Betsy, the eye came over us. We were on high ground in a well built structure. When the eye came over and all was calm for about an hour neighbors in poorly built structures took shelter in our home.
Wind is bad, storm surge will kill you. If you are in danger of a storm surge, leave or you may die.

LOL, when I heard this on the news earlier today, I thought the exact thing, too. From now on, I will always think of Shep as the Wicked Witch.

Yep! Bring the word CHILDREN into it and women and the timid will panic and believe anything. Don’t believe it...look at what has happened to our liberties and freedoms due to the panic created by using that very word to attack everything from gun control to climate change. “It’s about the children.” The statement will go down in history as the most potent attack weapon ever devised to conquer a free society.
