Hurricane Matthew is big, bad and just downright scary, with iminent and sustained impacts to U.S. mainland. Florida Governor Rick Scott issued a state of emergency for all of Florida and disaster operations are activated. More than 1.5 million Floridians reside in current evacuation zones. Governor Scott has spoken with utilities across the state to ensure utilities are pre-positioned and there are no unmet needs. Multiple coastal hospitals have been evacuated. Meanwhile, feckless President Barack Hussein Obama is personally monitoring the progress of the storm.

Lots of links and mets commenting in that thread/site.
There was one that meandered and looped off the coast of the Carolinas several times, can’t recall the name, seems like it was in the 90’s.
Well news is news even when it’s weather they tend to hype things to keep the story going......but this beast does seem to have a mind of it’s own and it’s nothing I would wait on preparing for.
I have enough up close and personal experience with these things to view them with a clear head. The not-so-bad, the unimaginably bad, and the utter fizzles. Seen them all and dealt with the consequences, from 5 minute power interruptions to floods and six weeks out of my home. I assess my risks and have a practiced appreciation of government and media attempts to panic people and convince them that they are the only experts.
Does that help?
very informative thanks
Emergency shelters should be the option of last resort always. This is why hurricane plans should be in place at the start of the storm season. Waiting until a day or two before a catastrophic storm is imminent is poor planning.
I don’t think I’d mess with this threat though......
Good point we have so much better equipment than even ten years ago we are far better informed.
Thanks. Lost bookmarks, and forgot all about that site.
Dennis passed once as a tropical storm and then looped back and made landfall. First pass took my 20x30 dock platform, next pass took care of what was left.
Yeah you are pulling it out of the air. I've been near or in every storm in South Florida since 46' but I know better than to claim this or that will happen in a scenario like this.
You’re welcome.
I’ve been a meteorologist for over 29 years...and his guess is pretty close to what will happen. The bad side of this storm is on the east and very close to the eye...more so than most cat 4’s. Sorry to bust your snarky bubble.
I didn’t make the map. It says 993. If you sent it to me, I assume you consider it reliable.
It’s got to be thoroughly dismaying to have to contend with one coming back at you, before you’ve even been able to deal with the damage from the first hit.
Well in a couple of days we’ll know, won’t we?
My 86 year old stepmom and my brother left jupiter this morning...I hope to find them by phone tonight. My nerves are shot.
I hear you, and I totally understand...
Notheast quadrant will be pushing surge into the coast if the eye tracks up the coast. That is the main danger in NE Florida and Georgia, rainfall is the primary danger in the Carolinas. And if Matthew pulls a Charlie and tracks just 15 miles further west than expected, it will be even worse. They simply cannot forecast this track with exact precision, which is why folks need to prepare for worst case.
