Hurricane Matthew is big, bad and just downright scary, with iminent and sustained impacts to U.S. mainland. Florida Governor Rick Scott issued a state of emergency for all of Florida and disaster operations are activated. More than 1.5 million Floridians reside in current evacuation zones. Governor Scott has spoken with utilities across the state to ensure utilities are pre-positioned and there are no unmet needs. Multiple coastal hospitals have been evacuated. Meanwhile, feckless President Barack Hussein Obama is personally monitoring the progress of the storm.

I-10 out of Jacksonville is a parking lot.
While I live in Jax, I am down at work near Daytona — prayers up for you and be safe.
A friend of mine lives in Port Saint Lucie. Can’t believe the media because they simply lie or exaggerate so much - how bad are things really going to be down there? He said they’re looking at cat 4.
Well my family members there are “sheltering in place”....boarded up with metal shutters and their home is as hurricane proof as one can be since it was one of the reasons they chose that home.....and yes they said the bridges are usually shut down when there’s such a storm threat.
I stayed there in Jacksonville for about 6 months several years ago....to see if I wanted to locate there. But too far from the north where my own family is.....so I stayed in the north.
Andrew’s central pressure - a much more compact storm - just before landfall: 926mb.
That was later updated to 922 after a later review.
Matthew is currently reported at 940, with Bastardi repeating that 920 is possible as it’s entering the warmer waters shortly.
I am really surprised that they have not reversed the flow so it is all west bound traffic
I spent a year in Key West, Truman Annex. I was attached to an Admiral's staff as a communications tech, and as such was considered essential personnel. I would have stayed in place for a hurricane. Fortunately, none came by that season.
I've always wondered how Key West and the old Navy buildings I was in would have fared in a hurricane.
There is no way I would be sticking around in Port St. Lucie. Period.
I think also some think about the dome during Katrina and saw what being in a shelter might mean......some feel safer in their own homes if they can buckle down safe enough.
Unfortunately, its hard to say just how strong this thing will be by the time it hits Jaxville. If the center travels over land for a while top winds should come down,if not probably depends on water temps over or near 80 degrees.
Most of the major access roads down in that part of the state are only 2 lanes, and you’ve got to keep one lane open eastbound for any kind of emergency vehicle you could imagine.
My thought and hope is that it does weaken as it nears land and or goes out into the atlantic or breaks up even. I try to remain positive
I’ve seen a lot of them weaken as they approach land
I have other family members near Tyndale Air Force Base...so they should hopefully not be affected.
I wonder if hillary will promise Floridians a could of billion bucks from her foundation if they all hold their nose grab their wallets and vote for her?
Disney is evacuating campsites, closing open air structures, and preparing to close their parks.
Well that’s just it...they don’t know exactly but better safe than sorry as is said with this beast........hopefully my family’s home will bare whatever comes their way.....they seem to think it will.
Thank you. Peace be with you & yours always :)
