On Thursday, as the Indian Army's Director General of Military Operations Ranbir Singh revealed that the Army had carried out surgical strikes on "terror launchpads" along the Line of Control, social media exchanges began to heat up in both India and Pakistan.
Within minutes of Singh's press conference, cashing in on the virtual jingoism, a food joint in National Capital Region, Burger Singh, sent out a mass text message that read: "In light of the surgical strike by Indian defence forces on terrorist camps (POK). We offer 20% discount on all orders..."
Scroll.in spoke to Prashant, a call operator at Burger Singh's branch in Connaught Place, who confirmed that the discount could only be availed of online. Prashant also said that Burger Singh's phone had been ringing off the hook since the text message was sent out.
Under "special offers" on Burger Singh's website there was no mention of surgical strikes, but there was a mention of the coupon code sent out with the text message, guaranteeing 20% discount.
Several Indian social media users found Burger Singh's marketing strategy unappetising.
When Scroll.in contacted Burger Singh for comment, its management replied: "We would... like to establish that we support the government's decisive and prompt action to preserve the honour of our armed forces and the dignity of our country."
"We are AGAINST terrorism and love our nation," said Kabir Singh, who is described as the founder of Burger Singh on the company's website. "It was never our intention to hurt, harm or otherwise prejudice anyone or their beliefs. As a response to all the love and hate coming our way across social platforms, we announce an increase in discount to 30%. politically correct Coupon Code strike30."
Do they really have burger joints in India? Aren’t they all Hindu?
Is it a pork sandwich?
I doubt the cooks wear caps that say "Eat More Beef".
The critics hated it, but the public ate it up.
Shiks are not vegetarians
There are multiple burger joints in India, though the vast majority serve chicken, mutton and vegetarian burgers. Beef is mostly consumed in some parts of South India, Goa and eastern states.

Looks pretty good. And their PC discount increase sounds like the kind of snarkiness we Yanks appreciate. :>
India is predominantly non-vegetarian; beef is the only major sticking point.
Yeah, but what is the percentage? Less than 1% I bet. I would think those Hindu would riot if you tried to build a burger joint there but I guess I am wrong. They do have liquor stores in Utah, I reckon.
Apparently.
Arent they all Hindu?
I would think not.
What is the population of India?
How do you like that. I mean it is almost like an old joke. “Burger joint in Calcutta”. One more example of things you wouldn’t think exist but do.
Yes, they have burger joints. No, they are not all Hindu.
And even Hindu's have various beliefs when it comes to eating beef.
Observant Hindus who follow Hindu scripture would never eat beef. It is 100% prohibited in the Vedas.
In the US plenty of people who consider themselves and are considered by others to be Christians believe and practice things that are prohibited in the Bible. But observant Christians do not have abortions, practice sex outside of marriage, homosexuality, and many other vices.
Similar with Hindus. Observant ones are vegetarian, but not all are observant or even understand their own traditions and scriptures.

India 28.8% vegetarian and of course the mohammedans are not, and there are many religions besides Hindus.
Not sure if everyone agrees with the “100%” prohibited bit. I’ve heard claims by scholars Rig Veda does talk of beef being consumed, though others say its figurative language that has been misinterpreted!
Found a menu link. These guys serve vegetarian, chicken, and mutton burgers (no beef), chicken wings, french fries, drinks and dessert.

Anyone who knows anything at all about sanitary conditions in India will NOT eat meat over there.
I think Singh is a Sikh name.....Sikh’s are born to hate Muslims.....Great people.
