Back when I was a pup in the newspaper business, legendary reporter Peter Kihss gave me lifetime advice about covering politicians. Remember, he said, there are no such things as stupid questions, only stupid answers.
Which brings us to Lester Holt and the accusations that the moderator tipped Mondays debate in favor of Hillary Clinton. Holts bias was obvious, but the impact was not inevitable. It mattered largely because, shockingly, Donald Trump was shocked that Holt was in the tank for Clinton.
How could Trump not see that coming? And if he did, why wasnt he better prepared?
Holt never pressed Clinton with any substantive follow-ups, while Trump repeatedly was asked to defend or explain what he had just said or said in the past.
Holt insisted repeatedly Trump had supported the Iraq War, despite the candidates denials, and asked pointed questions about his taxes and the Obama birther issue. Yet Clinton got only one obligatory question on the email scandal, and not a single one about the Clinton Foundation, her Wall Street speaking fees or her health all of which have figured far more prominently in the campaign than Iraq or the birther issue.
It was outrageous but no surprise. After all, Holt is part of the Big Media establishment that has uniformly protected President Obama and broken all its own standards to trash Trump and elect Clinton.

America sees this and has had enough.
It certainly looks that way.
There are no “legendary reporters,” only a bunch of self-impressed preeners.
However, this article is right on otherwise. The media whores keep spreading their VD, and their queen is in danger of catching it.
I thought it was odd that she kept doing that during the debate. It never occurred to me that is was a hand signal. Clever person who deduced that. Lester Holt is disgusting.
The American people hate the media as all polling on the matter shows. They saw Lester Holt not moderating a debate but helping Hillary at every turn. What the media is expecting in a surge for Hillary is now turning into an increased level of support for Trump.
I doubt there is ever a disadvantage to having the media on your side.
The media siding with Hillary may cost the media credibility and viewers. But it’s not likely to cost Hillary voters.
This cycle there is a massive backlash against the elites at all levels, especially the drive-bys.
I think Trump is excellent in many ways, but I think even if he wasn’t, this time around people are flipping the bird to the ruling classes and saying “WE will elect whom we want to, even if it’s a riberboat gambler with a prison record.”
This is what the Dems have done for decades. Think of the Congressman from NO with the gubment cash in his house. Not a peep from the drive bys. Think of Cankles herself: all they do is cover up and conceal and excuse.
I sense that the public on both sides has just had it and now are going to elect Trump big just to put them in their places.
I disagree. There are so many people I talk to who just turn off the news because it’s garbage.
The media is all in.
Yep! AZ paper endorsed the sour pickle queen! They will try everything to push her over the finish line! The hell with the people!!! I hope their paper goes bankrupts!!
That is amazing video! Thanks for the link to youtube.
I’ll say! My local newspaper (which is read by nearly noone and certainly not for national news) has been running every anti-Trump screed the Washington Post puts on the wire and it is embarassingly biased. Today’s day-old story on the debate was headlined “Trump Blames Others After Firey Debate” and goes on about how he gave Mrs. Clinton plenty of ammunition for her next round. Not one word favorable to Trump or mention of the fact that won the debate polls and is leading in the election polls.
I’d complain but that would let them know someone actually reads the garbage.
Wow! people need to see that YouTube. ( #RiggedDebate)
If the press thinks we don’t trust them now, just wait a few months until the Holt fiasco sinks in....
The Ministry of Propaganda is as popular as smallpox.
They are helpless to help the unlikeable be liked.
Exactly my point. The media’s support of Hillary is costing the media viewership, but it’s not costing Hillary voter’s. Those that still watch are getting pro-Hillary messages. And Hillary voters love the media. There is a downside for the media, but not for Hillary.
