European Union nations pressed ahead Tuesday with plans to boost military cooperation as Britain vowed to oppose the creation of an EU army or headquarters.
With Britain leaving the EU, France and Germany have been spearheading moves to boost Europes capacity to run its own security operations. [ ]
We are in a very strong Franco-German relationship and we think we will be able to make significant progress before the end of the year, he said, standing alongside German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen.
Von der Leyen insisted that its not about a European army.

Well. If they do this, they essentially prove Trump right. We’re not going to pick up the costs for a EU military; nor should we.
The EU is suicidal. An army, probably controlled by Germany, probably filled with their mideastern migrants. WHAT COULD GO WRONG ???
It’s not about costs with them. They were fine with bleeding the US military dry so that they could get the footing for military superiority when they decide to push forward. It’d be a mistake to think that they are thinking about returning the many favors the US did for them.
They aren’t letting any Mideasterners into the military. That would be a sticking point that the people would really cause an uproar against; the shift towards more nationalist parties in recent elections would make such a thing untenable.
The French divisions would have the Running Man dropping his rifle on a white field as their banner.
“Ve gaff vays of makinik you stay!”
While I agree with them, I don’t see how the UK has a say in this, having opted out of the oozing monstrosity known as the eu.
They’re not officially out; that is supposed to happen once the UK invokes Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, which has not yet happened. But the rest of the EU is acting like they are already officially out.
And why do you agree with them? This is about them asserting their own power and their own global-socialistic agenda, not about repaying the US for their security over the last 71 years.
Why do I think an EU army is more about preventing more Brexits than it is about a common defense?
If Britain is leaving the EU then why do they care about the EU army? It isn't like they're going to have to contribute to it.
Who do you think you are kidding Mr Juncker?
The heavy push for the EU military (rejected twice in the past) in response to the Brexit may be one clue.
No, but they may have its business end pointed at it.
“And why do you agree with them? This is about them asserting their own power and their own global-socialistic agenda, not about repaying the US for their security over the last 71 years.”
The ‘them’ I agree with is the Brits, not the scum in Brussels. My fault for being ambiguous. Thanks for the clarification re: Article 50. I wondered what was holding up the show.
Thanks for clarifying.
If I were running the UK, though, I would instead invoke “rebus sic stantibus” since the EU is actually violating the treaty by excluding the UK merely on the basis of a referendum result and the non-invocation of Article 50.
“Why do I think an EU army is more about preventing more Brexits than it is about a common defense?”
And suppressing the actual Europeans. Old Roman trick. Legions raised in one province to dominate another, while a foreign raised legion suppressed the home they came from. The Soviets did the same, in their haphazard, sloppy way.
Ooh nice! Further discredit those desiccated mediocrities in Brussels.
You really think so? EU at war with Britain?
They won't like it up 'em.
