The only way to talk someone out of voting for Trump is to stop trying to talk them out of voting for Trump. To all my fellow progressives whove been busily browbeating supporters of this dangerous demagogue, youre invited to become an early adopter of a far more rewarding, non-adversarial approach called powerful non-defensive communication.
According to most commentators, the prototypical Trump supporter is an uneducated, narrow-minded bigot with legitimate grievances against the faltering economy which Trump has skillfully alchemized into violent rage toward non-whites, Muslims and successful women. The Trump voter is a patriarchal authoritarian primed since early childhood to fearfully submit to a bullying father who always knows best. In the circular logic of the authoritarian mindset, might makes right and so Trump, as the strongman, is necessarily the winner in a competition against losers.

They really do believe that.
Liberal Logic? LMAO.
The twisted thought patterns of the left are near the same levels of hysterical deception which swept across China during the ‘cultural revolution’.....very brainwashed & very dangerous
I have a friend who is getting unhinged that I am voting for Trump. After a few go-arounds, I realized discussing it is a fruitless endeavor. We are speaking different languages. He is shocked that I am voting for a so-called hateful, racist, misogynist. I am shocked that this American-born boy’s basic ideals are ground so far into socialism and anti-Americanism. He is a middle-aged business owner, but has drunk wide and deep into Salon and Huffpo, and swallowed all their lies.
That was my first thought.
“How do you react when Trump takes positions that ban entire groups of people from being in the United States, like sending all Mexican immigrants back to Mexico and allowing no Muslims to enter the United States?”
“all” Mexican “immigrants”? That’s a lie! Why do they always have to resort to lying? Because lying is what they must do.
Lol
Looking at the article, they suggest engaging the Trump voter in dialogue. That in and of itself is unlikely as the arrogance of most leftist does not allow it.
The article is a hoot. It includes scripts one might use. I guess if you can only “feel: and can’t “think”, on must rely on such scipts.
Salon is hate speech. They all are.
This isn’t news, this isn’t even opinion or viewpoint. It’s just incoherent ranting.
These publications should be shut down for what they are - terrorists.
“According to most commentators,” HAHAHA, do they have degrees in Psychology? This, my friend, is An Appeal to Authority, a fallacy with the following form: Person A is (claimed to be) an authority on subject S. Person A makes claim C about subject S. Therefore, C is true. But these people are not even Authorities on Psychology! HEH HEH
Someone (with a lot of time on their hands) should take this entire article and all the verbal debate techniques it discusses and turn them against Hillary. They would all work just as well, they aren’t Trump specific, just techniques that this debate professor has devised to argue against anything.
That is an astute observation. I find my socialist friend's current comments to be very similar to my Grandfather's, who was an old-time Stalinist true believer. And yet, my friend fashions himself as "progressive" and modern. All of their roads lead to totalitarianism, but my friend ridicules the notion.
"Erica Etelson is a writer, ranter and rabble rouser.
Thinking that might explain the content.
Only in a place like salon would they waste bandwidth on what Plato describes . . . as someone who lives in a dark dingy cave and only sees shadows on the wall of what is really there in the world.
WOW, looks like a dude to me.
First off, that lady is the typical liberal who wishes to speak for everyone else, secondly if she is a muslim then she should wear a burka and cover her ugly face. Liberals are so arrogant and stupid.
Is it just unfortunate lighting, or does she have a five o’clock shadow?
This is applying the so called Delphic techniques, where the conversation isn’t a conversation, but a strategically planned manipulation.
This often works on groups and caucuses, where a narrowing of choices over the course of the event brings about a pre-desired result.
Erika Etelsen is proof that if you give a keyboard to a monkey it will just hit itself on the head with it.
“Trump is bad. Vote for the ever corrupt wicked witch of Arkacide, er, Arkansas.”
