Canadian taken hostage in Libya

3 foreigners seized — two Italians and one Canadian — were held at gunpoint Monday

Ottawa has confirmed that a Canadian is among three people taken hostage in Libya earlier this week.

In a statement Sunday, Global Affairs spokesman Michael O'Shaughnessy says the Canadian government is "diligently pursuing all appropriate channels to obtain more information about this troubling incident."

He says the government will not comment further or release any information that may compromise efforts to secure the hostages' release or endanger the safety of Canadian citizens.

Earlier in the week, a Libyan official said authorities were investigating the abduction of three foreigners working for a maintenance company near the border with Algeria.

Hassan Osman Eissa from the Ghat municipal council told The Associated Press on Thursday that the abductors are not al-Qaeda members, as some reports stated, but rather "a local group of outlaws."

The three foreigners seized — two Italians and one Canadian — were held at gunpoint Monday along the highway linking the southwestern cities of Ghat and Ubari.

If this were ISIS, there would likely be a negotiation, but Trudeau doesn't negotiate with thugs (so he can look tough). Two Canadian's have already died in the Philippines on his watch due to his 'We don't negotiate with terrorist' stance adopted to look like he was as Prime Ministerial as Harper, which is fine, as long as you negotiate through back channels to obtain their release (like every other country on the globe does). And that would be fine, but this bunch are actually just a outlaws looking for a million who would willing take $100,000 instead. Much like the Philippine 'terrorist' would have accepted anything you threw their way and released their Canadian hostages. Instead, due to Trudeau's stance, they chopped off their heads. My sympathies to the family of this hostage.

I’m with Trudeau on this. If you go to a country where you may get kidnapped like the Philippines which is big on kidnapping or the hellhole Libya, then don’t as the taxpayers to bail you out. If citizens are taken, then do a military strike and kill the bad guys, but no tribute or money to support more of the same.
