The New York Times and Gannett news have been trying to gain access to Donald Trump’s sealed divorce records on the grounds that they are of public interest now that he is running for President. Politico reports that New York judge Frank Nervo has rejected that argument:
“Were the court to make the confidential records available for journalistic, and thus public, scrutiny, it would impermissibly inject itself into the political process by making the value judgment of what information is useful in determining the present candidate’s, or any other candidate’s, fitness for office,” Nervo wrote. “The court’s role in the electoral process is strictly limited to determining whether a candidate complies with the Election Law. The court will not take an action that exceeds that limitation.”
Judge Nervo’s decision specifically noted that, even if there was a public interest in unsealing the records of Donald Trump’s divorce, there is no similar public interest in unsealing Ivana’s records:
The court is obviously aware that one of the parties, who opposes this motion, is a presidential candidate. The court is also aware that the other party, who also opposes this application, is not seeking public office. If the court were to deprive the candidate party of his rights under the agreement and the statue on the grounds that there may be something in the confidential file that would be useful in determining his fitness for office, that ground does not exist in the case of his former wife who is not a candidate.
Both Donald and Ivana opposed unsealing the divorce records. Perhaps if Ivana had attempted to waive her privacy interest the judge might have ruled differently, but he writes that under the circumstances and under the law of New York he has no cause to violate her privacy.
Trump’s attorney told Politico, “We are pleased with the Court’s well-reasoned decision and order.” The NY Times has not indicated whether or not it will appeal the decision.
good news. Happy :)
How would a court order demanding Obama’s records be any different?
‘Suicide’ note found beside the Judge's body with two bullet holes in the back of his head’...
I’ve been trying to find out why Michelle and Obozo had to surrender their law licenses. It appears they have sealed virtually every record from their past. Seems that turn-about is fair play.
Sanity rules.
Would it be?
This was how Obama got elected to the US Senate—his Republican opponent’s sealed divorce records were leaked to the press and that man dropped out (to be replaced by Keyes who was not even a resident of Illinois). But what’s sauce for Obama is not sauce for Hillary.
I agree it is fair play that they had to return their law licenses.
“Keyword: New York Slimes”
Slimy is as Slimy does. Abyss beneath abyss...
That divorced Republican divorce records was no one’s business, but this is how the rats win elections. Lying, stealing, using fraud and dirty tricks, but never honestly
Not to mention Obummer’s transcripts from Occidental College that he still refuses to release
It says a lot about Trump’s character that the NYT, desperate to find “dirt” on him, is resorting to trying to access confidential records. It is a strong indication that they can find nothing on him in the public record.
This is one more reason I supported Trump from the first: his life has been public for decades, meaning that the ability of the press to find skeletons in his closet has been effectively neutered. We will not have a replay of the Bush/Gore campaign, when Gore operatives searched through legal records until they finally found one where Bush had been cited for DUI—and released it to the public the week before the election.

I have a friend who is a lawyer that said Bath-house Barry lost his license simply because of inactivity. There was a website (I can’t remember the name) that list these things for all lawyers.
It’s on video that Ivana got paid off in the stone currency of the Yap Islanders.
David Brock or someone else from Hillary’s camp more than likely put the Slimes and the Gannett Press up to it. They do Hillary’s bidding.
This is how Obama got elected Senator.
They illegally got and disseminated divorce records of his Republican opponent.
Obama’d be nothing today if not for that.
(Of course the Republicans never should have put up such a low life as their candidate, but that’s a separate issue).
The slimes would do that to any Republican presidential, Nominee, not just Trump. Believe it.
Maybe The Slimes will ask for Chelsea’s DNA, Who’s Yo Daddy?
Good for the judge
