It won’t come to that unless the U.S. really wants to start WWIII and end civilization as we now it. Ivan has the capability and knocking out ALL avionics. We know that. They know that. The Russian air defense net in Syria is more than capable of shooting down our aircraft

Just because the Russians have not attacked yet does not mean they can't

If the US Airforce is actively providing air support for ISIS (al-Qaeda) and attacking Syrian government forces without a declaration of war against then we are screwed

Syria is not engaging in either aggressive war against any outside country or nor is Syria engaging or supporting terrorism to any other country

Assad is defending himself from ISIS terror attacks.

Regardless of the fact that Assad's chickens are coming home to roost for his allowing al-Qaeda , now called ISIS, into Syria to use Syria as a base of operation for Iraq, Assad is now an important leader in the fight against ISIS/al-Qaeda insurgents

I hate Assad for his role in fueling the Iraq insurgency, but I dont hate him enough to hand Syria over to al-Qaeda Jihadi mercenaries

Once the S-300 anti-aircraft missile system "locks-on" to an aircraft, there is no escape and no defense. The system cannot be jammed and its missiles cannot be fooled by flares or chaff. An S-300 absolutely, positively, will hit and kill any aircraft it is fired at.
