After violent protests raged for the second night in Charlotte over the police shooting of a black man, the city's police chief told reporters Thursday he has no intention of releasing dashcam video of Keith Lamont Scott's shooting "to the masses."
Asked if there was a time at which the public could expect to see it, Chief Kerr Putney said there should be no such expectation.
"Transparency's in the eye of the beholder," he said. "If you think we should display a victim's worst day for public consumption, that is not the transparency I'm speaking of."
Scott's family has asked to see the video, and Putney said he hopes to accommodate that request. He warned, however, that the video will not provide "definitive visual evidence" that Scott pointed a gun at police officers. But other evidence and witness accounts support the police narrative that officers opened fire only after Scott refused to drop his weapon, he said.
At the request of Scott's family, Mecklenburg County District Attorney R. Andrew Murray has asked the State Bureau of Investigation to investigate Scott's death, according to his office. State law requires the prosecutor to reach out to the bureau if the family requests it.
Reinforcements coming
Putney also used the news conference to send a message to those who would continue looting and destroying property in the city, which resulted in 44 arrests and injuries to nine civilians and five police officers: "We're not going to tolerate the behavior." Two of the officers suffered minor eye injuries, while three others had heat-related ailments.

Mistake, dummy! Try compounding the problem why don’t you.
They’d rather Charlotte burn down than show a few frames of an armed attacker getting killed by police.
Priorities, priorities.
just asking, are the 2 race baiters jackson and sharpton in that city now? With the many race riots, they cant be at every city at the same time s/
Guess this will lead to more rioting. Sad.
its a public ‘record’ and he will be forced to reveal it
(unless, of course, he’s hired the same enemy agent lawyers O has for hiding his basic identity, birth, citizenship, and immigration records.....in that case, the video will stay hidden forever and ever)
Doesn’t support his story so it’s none of our business.
It's by design.
Double stupid. First, he calls him a ‘victim’, which he is not. And of course the family doesn’t want it out, since it will hurt their chances of being invited to the White House.
When these professional malcontents first started clamoring for police video cameras, I predicted that the whole charade would only last for a year or two ... because it would quickly become obvious that one of the recurring themes of these videotaped encounters is that a disproportionate number of minorities don’t even know how to act civilized.
The call came from the TOP....I’m sure...and I think y’all know who the “TOP” is...
Amazing how the fact a black officer did the shooting quickly got dropped out of the story. Could not be the fact that Hillary is locked in a very tight race for the WH and need a large black turn out in NC to possible swing the state to her?
The shooter was a black officer. How is this a “race” issue?
Well, we’ve seen the Tulsa videos 100 times and no riots.
Here’s what this is all about.
Set aside this decision to NOT release the videos especially if they aren’t conclusive.
From the rioters and agitators perspective the issue is one of trust and the ability to exploit doubt.
They don’t riot when the evidence is CLEAR that the police are at fault.
They ONLY riot when they can create a narrative that says the “Police” or the “Man” is lying and is trying to cover-up their misdeeds. Think about that fact and ask yourself why?
When there’s video evidence that clearly shows the cop or cops at fault, they have nothing more to argue since the Police have generally agreed with them. And those Officers are prosecuted.
This is NOT what they want.
They want to create and exploit doubt and the mistrust between themselves and virtually any authority.
I have no doubt that the folks from CPUSA or Revcom.us will have a boat load of people on the streets of Charlotte tonight.
Agitating both the Police and the Useful Idiot thugs into more violence.
It isn't, and the police chief is black, too, but facts don't matter. They will spin this as they wish and the Democrat base masses will follow their lead. Just like the "hands up, don't shoot" movement is based on a complete lie, also.
Further confirming that there is no intelligence in Charlotte city government.
Locally, a teenaged girl ran a stop and hit a car with her bike.
She went down and blacked out briefly.
The people watching held her until the cops came and then she went utterly rabid.
Spitting, cussing, kicking the cops...who were simply trying to get her to a hospital to be checked over, as is the law.
She would not give her name, her parents’ names or anything else but insane screaming and kicking.
The ‘local youths’ went bananas over the phone video her friend posted on FB and a mob of them protested last last night, blocking traffic and threatening ‘white folk’.
Then the HPD released the body cam footage, which utterly destroyed the entire ‘brutality’ narrative.
None of the natives gave a damn.
There’s talk that BLM is coming here to protest.
Truth means *nothing* to those who have ulterior motives.
Oh, and she had a back pack full of pot.
But, no she’s just a tiny angel honor student, arbitrarily tortured by evil cops.
