Kurdish forces fired bullets into the home of a Syrian Catholic archbishop as part of a campaign of intimidation against Christians.
Archbishop Jacques Behnan Hindo, who is based in the northeastern Syrian city of Al-Hasakah, told the Fides news agency that he narrowly escaped being shot in the head.
In many cases they expelled the Christians from their homes under the threat of Kalashnikovs, he said. And where they enter, they loot everything.
As belligerents in the Syrian Civil War who oppose the government as well as the Islamic State, Kurdish forces now control one-fifth of Syria and have established Rojava, a semi-autonomous state.
These are our friends?
My thoughts exactly. I thought the Kurds were allies.
Give them a safe zone and captured weapons. That way they can kill each other. It will delay the inevitable that their birth rates will bring.
The Kurds are the enemy of our enemy...but still not to be trusted.
I thought they were on our side?
I understand that most kurds follow islam. That makes them untrustworthy and dangerous.
Deserve a state? We’ve given them better than that. We’ve given them their own welfare-covered community in Nashville, Tennessee. Nashville has its “Little Kurdistan” an multiple mosques. Now they can bring back Hee Haw with all kinds of corny Mohammedan humor.
Right. And the Christians are protected by our enemy (Assad). Very complicated I guess. Maybe somebody can remind me why we are trying to take down Assad.
No one who believes in the allah of the koran is friend.
There are no friends in the entire middle east BUT Israel.
Because he’s Shia and the Saudis are Sunni and they have some kind of oil or oil transport dispute with each other.
Kurds is a loose ethnic term. I’m not sure but there are numerous distinct Kurd factions. Some Kurds are worthy allies and some are simply murderois Islamists. Of course we support the wrong faction (Syrian) and try to cripple the good one (Iraqi).
Anyone whose has a good understanding of this please dive in.
Modern Kurdish leaders and groups (unlike the Turks) have recognized that genocide and their ancestors role in it.
But, incidents like this should make one wonder: How deep down the Kurdish ranks does this turn of heart actually extend?
There must be a mistake here. Many of us on Freerepublic absolutely LOVE the Kurds. They are without fault.
Probably because Syria wasn’t Islamic enough for Barry and HRC.
I’ll look for 3rd party confirmation. What he’s saying obviously benefits one side.
The Iraq war was almost expanded into Syria because Assad let Al Qaeda and others have camps and plan attacks from Syria, he was for ‘em before he was again’ them. They harbored Saddam’s brother until forced to give them up; they funnel arms to Hezbollah from Iran which in turn are used against Israel.
Time for the Russians to march in and clear out Syria, push the rabble into Turkey and Iraq.
I’d like to see some confirmation on this. The Kurds don’t have a history of attacking Christians, especially when allied with them against ISIS.
Id like to see some confirmation on this. ..................... My guess, some radical PPK types.
