Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Tuesday that the Senate will take up an expected veto override of legislation that lets families of 9/11 victims sue Saudi Arabia in U.S. courts before breaking for the elections.
"Both of those we'll have to deal with before we depart," the Senate Republican Leader told reporters. He was referring to the veto override and a separate push to block a proposed arms sale to Saudi Arabia.
The Senate had been expected to leave town this week, but McConnell said it was "safe to say" that the Senate would be in town next week. The House and Senate have both approved the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act. The White House is expected to veto the legislation by Friday the deadline for it to take action.
The administration argues the bill could open up U.S. citizens abroad to retaliatory legal attacks.
A handful of senators, including Republicans and Democrats, have echoed the White House's concerns, but stopped short of saying they would oppose the override.
Will McConnell swap a Supreme Court justice for this ?
The Turtle is already slithering towards putting another leftist on the 9th Circus...
Nothing, least of all any amount of money would make it square. The million they were given was to make sure they did not have financial problems, that is all money can ever do.
What is Hillary’s position on this matter?
AHH! hope not.
Good job Turtle-Neck where have you been for the last 8 years?
Translation: There’s a new sheriff in town. McConnell’s got a new boss.
Congress needs to pass a veto-proof declaration of war against the Saudis. And authorize first strike use of nukes against the sand maggots while they’re at it.
Yes, but for those who love money to the exclusion of most else, the threat of losing it is a deterrent. And suing will prove cathartic to those who did lose loved ones. No reason to deny them that.
Exactly right. Only the US Congress could be stupid enough to go down this slippery slope.
I said the same thing at the time. Not only did the families get millions from the tax-payers, but new charities sprang up over night and gave them millions more.
As horrific as 9/11 was, I never got being in the wrong place at the wrong time warranted tax dollars to the families, that's what life insurance is for. I gave countless examples of other man-made atrocities where surviving relatives were not granted tax dollars (think Oklahoma City for one).
And what about since 9/11 with the Boston bombing, San Bernardino murders, Orlando, plus various mass murders in schools, a theater etc.? Where's their tax money?
Don't mean to be callous, but I never got it. Everyone is in danger every day of losing their life due to man-made or natural disasters. Auto accidents account for more people killed than any thing. Again, being at the wrong spot on the road at the wrong time.
The only surviving families I believe warrant extra tax dollars are those of the Military, Cops, and Firemen who die in the line of duty after volunteering to give their lives for others.
Thanks, glad I am not alone in thiking this is a bit nuts:))
Yep. Your move, giggles.
I watched it last week.
Yes, a MUST SEE to all Americans
Second Translation. “Obama is an avowed socialist quasi Marxist and liar.
A successful veto override....

I’ll believe it when I see it. Turtle is just running his mouth.
Bingo!
Yep.
