What exactly are the high “conservative” principles of Romney and McCain that Trump has failed to express?
A few days ago David Limbaugh, a widely-syndicated Republican commentator (and Rush’s less fiery younger brother) posted a commentary intended to deescalate the tensions between Trump’s supporters and the “never-Trumpers.” Limbaugh defines himself as a “reluctant Trumper,” who decided to support the Donald as the lesser of two evils after his preferred candidate Ted Cruz stumbled in the primaries. Limbaugh does not hide his dislike for Trump’s free-wheeling rhetoric and believes that the GOP nominee’s critics on the right may be fully justified in doubting his “genuine commitment to conservative policies.”
Despite these doubts, Limbaugh endorses Trump for reasons that one also hears from Sean Hannity, Pat Buchanan, Jerry Falwell, Jr., Larry Elder, and yours truly. Trump has “many incentives to implement our [conservative] policies,” while Hillary Clinton has absolutely none. He is also, not incidentally, bestowing on the Republican Party a large working class constituency; and even among racial minorities, he is doing at least as well, and in the case of prospective black voters, better than his GOP centrist predecessors, Mitt Romney and John McCain. Moreover, it is hard not to see Trump’s focusing on the problems of illegals and sanctuary cities as anything other than a “conservative” issue. That remains the case even if most of his primary competitors and certainly the editorial board of the Wall Street Journal might wish those issues had never been brought into the primaries.

I remember Rush laughing at Trump's speech when he entered the race. I had not heard him speak, but my voice teacher, whose political opinions I trust, said, "I really like what he said!" A few days later, a Facebook friend from grade school who is a self-reliant, non-BS-er type of guy, and also now a lawyer, came out in support of him. Frankly, Glenn Beck's manic dislike of him made me question Cruz. I haven't been able to listen to Beck in months! In the meantime, I ran across Dr. Anthony Napoleon on Twitter. His tweets and books were really eye opening regarding Trump, and Cruz and Cruz supporters. I ended up changing my mind in the voting booth on primary day, and voted for Trump. He has what it takes to turn the Ship of State around. Pray for his safety, for there are evil people who hate what he is doing: destroying their carefully crafted, stinking world, and giving it back to the people. Now we just have to make it great again!

I jumped on the Trump “bandwagon” about a week after Trump announced and made his commitment to Build The Wall. By February, 2016 I had kicked Limbaugh, Beck, Levin, Cruz, Rubio, and the entire GOPe to the curb where they belong.

I really enjoyed your story! I remember starting this whole campaign in the early primaries thinking Trump would be weeded out quickly. He wasn’t and then he began to talk about illegal immigration. CrUz never rose to the occasion for me as he did for Limbaugh. And then Trump insulted John McCain and , from that point on, he was my candidate! It has been a wild ride!
Don’t forget as I heard Sabato mentioned Trump getting 87-88% is pretty good considering Johnson is a stronger than usual 3rd party candidate. He said both Hillary and Trump may not need that 90% because both are losing natural voters to third parties almost equally - Stein and Johnson.

With friends like these "reluctant supporters," who needs enemies? While Limbaugh has enriched himself through political prostitution, he's really a good guy. Like their hero, Quintilian, they profess the most lofty ideals of rhetoric while slobbering at the feet of tyrants. While Domitian instituted the reign of terror, Quintilian extolled the virtues of lying to further a good end. His modern disciples such as Limbaugh promote the corrupt players in the current system in pursuit of some future moral Utopia while the Republic crumbles at our feet.
Many people forget that when Trump announced, Jeb Bush was leading in all the polls, he had been declared by the Republican Establishment and the so-called "conservative" media such as National Review as their chosen candidate and he was quickly following the Romney playbook of steamrolling the rest of the field by locking up all the big money donors and endorsements. It looked like we were going to have a repeat of 2008 and 2012 were the establishment would ram their limp wristed RINO down our throats and we would be sent to the back of the bus. I had almost resigned myself to that outcome a year before the first primary vote was cast. None of the other candidates, Cruz included, seemed to be able to counter Jeb, they would go at him with same old tired political arguments all the also-rans had tried in prior elections, and it wouldn't work.
Then Trump came on the scene...
And instead of debating Jeb or even going after him, Trump essentially just dismissed Jeb as a loser and a nobody, essentially saying "Jeb Bush?!? Seriously? This guy is a joke! He is low-energy. He sticks his foot in his mouth every time he speaks. Nobody really likes him. All he's got is the Bush name, and Daddy's big money donors." The Republican base scratched their heads and said...you know, Trump is exactly right! That was the end of Jeb Bush
Trump essentially destroyed the Republican frontrunner and all his big money supporters with two words "low energy". Something none of the other candidates came close to doing. That's what told me that this guy Trump is the real deal. What sealed the deal was when he did the exact same thing to Hillary Clinton. Back in the winter Hillary came out and tried to label Trump a sexist, he fired a nuke right back and labeled Bill Clinton a serial sex abuser and her an enabler, something no other Republican ever had the courage to do in 25 years. And the "mighty" Clinton's were left stunned and sputtering in disbelief with even the liberal media saying Trump won the exchange.
If you check him out on twitter, he can seem pretty abrasive. Understand that he does "scold". However, because of what he is exposing, he is under some pretty vicious attacks. If you are able to view his Tweet-storms, they are mini lectures on psychology and how we are being manipulated. He has worked with very important people and is in touch with Trump. His books are excellent!

If you can't understand that then well you are missing the boat. All of the other candidates were non factors when Trump went non PC. Cruz hung in there only because he was drafting Trump hoping for him to stumble at the end.
I read a Bible-themed book recently by David Limbaugh and thought it was pretty informative, so I’m sad to hear he’s hurting Trump now with his lukewarm support. You know what God says about lukewarm institutions, He will spit you out of his mouth. I won’t read any more David Limbaugh books.

Honestly I don't even think Rush cared which candidate got the nomination. Unlike Hannity, Levin and some of the other hosts who had clear favorites. Rush seemed to just go with whatever way he thought the political wind was blowing, anti-Trump when Trump was sinking in the polls, pro-Trump when Trump was rising, heck I seem to remember he was even pro-Rubio and pro-Jeb when they were doing good in the polls.
I wouldn't call myself "anti-Rush" I still listen to his show once or twice a week. But as a long time listener (since ~1992) I will say that since around 2012 Rush has pretty much just been on cruise control, his show is nowhere near as edgy and thought provoking as it once was. It's as if he tells himself every morning, "Take no risks, regurgitate some mainstream conservative talking points, collect your paycheck." I honestly thought he would retire when his current contract ran out back in August,I was wrong, but I suppose a few hundred million is a powerful enough motivator to sit in a chair and phone it in for another five years.
This is the first that I have heard of David Limbaugh now supporting Donald Trump. Reluctantly. I respect him and Rush for finally admitting and accepting the reality of the political situation which will end as either this Republic surviving with Donald Trump or being destroyed by a Clinton victory.

I wasn’t for him either but I loved what he said and how he said it. I didn’t believe he was a serious candidate. I actually love him and can’t wait to vote for him.
B$. Rush certainly preferred Cruz or Rubio but I don't hear what the author claims in that paragraph.
I had plenty to dump on Rush for during the primary but unlike Beck and Levin he has managed to see that this race is a time of choosing.
