Discussing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s March 2015 speech to Congress about the dangers posed by the Iranian nuclear deal, in an email he sent to US Democratic party donor Jeffrey Leeds, Powell wrote that he doubted the Iranian regime would use an atomic bomb even if it could get one, since “the boys in Tehran know Israel has 200, all targeted on Tehran, and we have thousands.”

I’d heard the 200 figure a great many years ago, so that’s no surprise. Saying they would all be targeted on Tehran sounds like such an idiotic statement that I am shocked any former 4 star general would ever say such a thing. Powell really isn’t very bright, is he?

This was what Powel knew from briefings when he was Joint Chief back in 1991. At the time this likely represented those weapons armed and deployable at any time for delivery from Land (Jericho III)(Shavit), Sea Dolphin (Popeye - Harpoon), and Air F-15 F-16 (Popeye - Tomahawk))plus gravity B-61 variant. They have neutron warheads, nuclear and thermo nuclear in high kiloton range and possibly megaton of unknown yield. they have a great deal more than 200, but than again they do not need that many noting their neighbors, yet they could damage Russia and China if attacked.

Powell blurted out in unsecure email something people of high rank should never discuss openly and should know better. Once you have known classified information it remains so for life even after you leave the service or government.

South Africa and Israel worked jointly on nuke tech.
Prior to the fall of the apartheid SA government they moved their “stuff” to Israel.
