California legislators have approved a bill targeting cow flatulence and manure, which lawmakers blame for releasing greenhouse gases. The legislation aims to reduce methane emissions related to manure to 40 percent below 2013 levels by 2030.
Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) authored the bill, which passed shortly before the end of the legislative session. Lara agreed to a compromise that will give dairy farms more time to comply with the new regulations.
Critics have expressed concerns the new regulations will result in an increase in the price of milk from California cows. Proponents of the bill say methane emissions have a huge influence on the climate.
The legislation also calls for efforts that would significantly increase composting in order to eliminate the amount of food waste in landfills. Food waste releases methane when it breaks down.
Bullsh!t!
Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb
Welcome to my state.
Bleh.
So....now this is weird....apparently dumping garbage into composting doesn’t release methane gasses, but dumping garbage into the dump does. I’ll have to try to think like a Democrat to figure that one out.
Some smart guy out there needs to invent a device you can stick up a cows butt and deposit in a politicians mouth.
“The legislation also calls for efforts that would significantly increase composting in order to eliminate the amount of food waste in landfills. Food waste releases methane when it breaks down.”
Real brain surgeons here. Wouldn’t the methane be the same whether it decomposes in my compost pile or the landfills?
This state will be bankrupt before you know it.
Cow fart storage unit
They are going to make cows wear fart sacks on their butts....
A fitting bill to go with the bull**** the CA legislature usually passes.
“Wouldnt the methane be the same whether it decomposes in my compost pile or the landfills?”
No the landfill methane is sequestered and can be used to power a gas turbine generator but the compost methane is free to move about the atmosphere.
The politicians are finally addressing something that they have expert knowledge about. Flatulence.
Compost may be aerobic, landfill may be anaerobic.
That could make the difference.
Put a dome over the State Capitol and vacuum up all the “flattulence” that emanates from it. There’s so much gas being passed there, If you lit a match when they are in session, the damned place would blow up!
Just what we need—jihadist cows.
um...they do know that landfill methane can be captured and turned into energy ?
