Road Trip: Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana

Barksdale Air Force Base (AFB) is a United States Air Force base which is located in northwest Louisiana, in Bossier Parish, and is contiguous to Bossier City, Louisiana along the base's western and northwestern edge. Barksdale Air Force Base occupies over 22,000 acres of land east of Bossier City and along the southern edge of Interstate Highway 20.

The host unit at Barksdale is the 2d Bomb Wing (2 BW), the oldest Bomb Wing in the Air Force. It is assigned to the Air Force Global Strike Command's (AFGSC) Eighth Air Force (8 AF).

The 2 BW is equipped with the B-52H Stratofortress bomber. It provides flexible, responsive, global combat capability, autonomously or in concert with other forces, and trains all Air Force Global Strike Command and Air Force Reserve Command Boeing B-52 Stratofortress crews.

More than 15,000 active-duty, Air Force Reserve members and civilians make up Barksdale's workforce. About 44 B-52 Stratofortress aircraft are also assigned to the wing.

Team Barksdale provides decisive nuclear deterrence and conventional firepower to Combatant Commanders for global strike operations anytime, anywhere!

The 2d Bomb Wing is the largest bomb wing in Air Force Global Strike Command and part of the historic 8th Air Force. More than 8,500 active-duty, Air Force Reserve members and civilians make up Barksdale's workforce. About 26 B-52 Stratofortress aircraft are also assigned to the wing.

Yeah, we consumers are enjoying the lower gas prices but it’s tough for those on the other end. Can’t keep as many people on the payroll when less money’s coming in.

Tax ‘em more. Dims’ favorite solution. *spit*

Oh yes...Making up a list of songs as we speak.

And Lynn-Dah’s wound is all healed...nothing to even pick at anymore for her.

Now, he lovely black fur has got to grow over it.

Thank you. It is just a warm and fuzzy feeling to see such technology. The B-52 was designed for high altitude bombing runs but can be used below radar. Knowing it was built in the 1950’s and is still putting fear into the hearts of the enemy is such a compliment to American ingenuity.

Yes, determining the sex is one test they’ll do but the main thing they’ll test for is beak and feather disease. That killed SE15 last year and if it turns out Peaglet has it, they’ll destroy the nest. No cure for the disease.
