CHAMPAIGN A Social Security Administration employee who believes he shouldn't have to watch a workplace diversity video about the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, because it violates his religious beliefs, fears he may lose his job because of it.
David Hall, 42, of Tolono has worked for the federal agency for 14 years, based in the Champaign office as an area systems coordinator, an information technology position.
In late April, Hall said, employees nationwide received an email from the agency about a 17-minute LGBT diversity and inclusion training video that they were told to watch at their work stations. Employees were required to certify that they had seen the video.
Hall said he is a Christian "not anti-anyone or anything," but "for God, for Jesus" and believes the Bible teaches that homosexuality is a sin.
So, he didn't watch it.
His supervisor gave him direct orders to do so first on June 2, then again on June 24. Again, Hall refused both times.
As a result, an official reprimand was placed in his file the first he has ever received, he says and he was suspended without pay for two days, Aug. 15-16.

I asked why it seemed to be completely okay in today’s society to only be bigoted towards gun owners like myself.

I was told to watch a diversity video followed by an online test. I skipped the video and went straight to the test. I got a perfect score. I gave politically correct answers to all of the questions.

At some point our society really crossed a line between private and public lives.
To think that the income you need to put food on the table and a roof over your family’s head depends on listening to indoctrination...incredible.
And what about all these Muslim employees who refuse to serve alcohol (wasn’t there a flight attendant who did that) or do other things that are required for their job but prohibited by Islam but are protected.
Did this diversity video have anything substantive to do with the man’s job? Since it’s IT, it doesn’t appear so.
OTOH, I also agree with PAR35: One option is to sit in the back, look like you’re taking notes, but have a hidden magazine or book inside the binder. ;)

I was just like that, refused morally-compromising things, only reason I wasn’t fired was I was already on disability leave on and off and termination would have been very messy for them.

Sorry, but one's religious beliefs are not relevant to your role as an employee. I agree, diversity training is stupid and brainwashing, but you're being paid to be their employee and as an employee you have to participate in the stupidity.
(If it makes you feel any better, they're doing it to protect against discrimination lawsuits, not because they actually believe in this bullshit. Everyone is playing the game.)
Bring a crossword puzzle, soduko, write a letter to your sister, anything - and make it look like you're taking real important notes about diversity. F with them. Outplay them.
IT’s called compliance, it’s like a career field these days. Management says, make sure we’re compliant with all regulations, and somehow that leads to annual reeducation training. Really nothing worst than the PIAPS was supposed to go to over classification but never did.
I don't recall the ACLU jumping up to support the bakeries or the photographers, I don't see them doing it here.
But I'm curious, what is it specifically about the video that conflicts with his religious beliefs? The other people were forced to perform a service that they said violated their beliefs; how does watching a video violate his?
