I'm cool with that. See here:
And the wind never stops blowing.
You can make jerky in 3 days.
Why tickets then? LOL!
I was talking to the nephews of a very old friend last year. They live near San Francisco and I told them of my first and probably last visit there. “Way too crowded for me, I hate large crowds.”
“The absolute best time to visit San Francisco” one said “is during the Burning Man festival. It’s like a ghost town.” I LOL’ed! This was coming from a 12 year old and I have a strong suspicion he is rebelling against his parents full blown leftism.
Dude, it’s all about the experience man. You dig? LOL! How much of the playa ends up being washed in to the Truckee? Yup, you can easily spot the ones returning from a good time.
I am inappropriately proud to say that a roommate of mine in the late 70s was a fan of Burning Man, and used to go when it was more local (I forget the location). He was telling me how great it was, anyway, that was back in the day. I never went. But I definitely knew one of the very originals.
The negativity you see here on the board is, I think, directed against those who think there is such a thing as a permanent human based anything that does not need law and order. Otherwise, people abuse people. To deny that is to deny reality. That is why we must have just laws, and enforcement of laws.
The bees don’t need laws and enforcers. Then again they aren’t sinners.
“It’s unbelievable that there are angry people here.”
Liberalism bites liberals in the ass. Who’da thunk?
That is some strange people.....
The beginning of the end of Burning Man. It is only a matter of time now.
Please no. I love the area and go there often.
Could they please move it back to calibfornia? Oh, probably too many enviro restrictions since it left there.
There were no tickets until the mid 1990s
BLM now sets strict limits on population and requires several $million in permit fees. It also started mandating portable toilets and several medical stations that cost big money. They’re also now requiring air-conditioned stations (with guestrooms) be built for BLM officers. “Give the fedgov a cookie...”
The Native Americans also ask for $millions since the surrounding land is theirs
That seems to be the typical trajectory of any regular popular public event. Here in Austin, Friday night on 6th Street used to be like a neighborhood block party, but now it is getting to be a little risky. I would expect to see future conflict at Burning Man. Once the "youths" start showing up it is all over.
Yup, Commiefornia would never allow it.
BLM backed off the AC demand. They got too much bad press.
In other news law enforcement has a minimal presence this year.
I’m guessing they do the Burn because they don’t have time for a giant wooden effigy to slowly rot away. Especially in this climate. There’s a valley in the middle of the desert of Namibia, where dead trees have been standing for 900 years.
It’ll be safe to re-visit, after a few years.
Sadly I don’t have time to wait it out. Very good speed goat hunting in the area.
a winnebago with a hot shower and refrigerator goes a long way towards that (or at least, so i have heard)... of course, it might also get one a STD or two as well... :-)
