After two weeks spent waffling on immigration, and making noises on the subject largely indistinguishable from those of Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio, Donald Trump has settled on a hawkish position and a practical one. Trumps crowd-pleasing antics aside, in his immigration speech in Phoenix, Ariz., on Wednesday he laid out a sensible, realistic path forward on genuine immigration reform.
Trumps plan, even in its most primitive iterations, always has been based on the entirely commonsensical principle that Americas immigration policy should serve American interests. Taking this as a starting point, Trump laid out a ten-point policy that emphasizes securing the border, enforcing immigration laws, prioritizing the removal of criminal aliens, and creating the legal and economic disincentives necessary to reduce illegal immigration in the long term.
These are the right priorities. On border security, Trump renewed his commitment to a physical wall on the southern border (as well as, alas, his absurd promise that Mexico would pay for it), pledged to swell the ranks of the understaffed Immigrations and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol agencies, and vowed to deploy technology, such as below-ground sensors, to aid them. He also promised an end to the catch-and-release policies that have defined the Obama-era commitment (or lack thereof) to border security and to defund sanctuary cities (an initiative that would, of course, have to come out of Congress). And as Trump noted, about half of Americas illegal-immigrant population overstayed legally gotten visas, meaning that a comprehensive visa-overstay tracking system of the sort he is proposing is also crucial part of any real enforcement agenda.

Pictures paint a thousand words. No comment necessary. Go Trump!
Wow, when I was reading this, it seemed like the writer(s) at NR were in pain when they wrote it.
Gee, these guys are coming around.
Amen....Donald J. Trump is America’s last chance to survive as a great nation. When I Iook and listen to a sickly appearing person (Hillary Clinton), that presents herself in person, with dissheveled, uncombed, hair and no make-up, as she addresses the American Legion, A VP, Joe “Plugs” Biden blabbering nothing worthwhile, in front of a few union goons, forced to attend his presence, by their leadership and, the brainless, braindead words out-of-the- mouth of that idiot Clinton, VP, nominee, Tim Kaine, I cannot believe that the American voters would even consider these misfit, fools & idiots for anything more then a carnival side show......they certainly do not come close to POTUS caliber!!! Go figure!!!
GO....DONALD J. TRUMP....ONWARD TO VICTORY!!!
Isn’t a Rubio/Bush meekness what NR has espoused all along?
They hate Trump even when he agrees with them.
“Wow, when I was reading this, it seemed like the writer(s) at NR were in pain when they wrote it.” They were because this makes it harder for them to be good little quisling NeverTrumps by making them look even stupider than they are. But they will soldier on and support Hillary to the very end of their lives.
2) Round up and deport people who are here illegally. These people are breaking the law. You don't just look the other way when other serious crimes are committed, we should not on this issue either.
3) People who are rounded up and deported: if we have to go to the trouble and expense to find you and deport you... Before you are kicked back across the border with only the clothes on your back; you will be photographed; you will be finger printed; you will be DNA sampled. You will never be allowed across our border again. Not to immigrate, not to work, not to visit. Permanent 100% ban on ever entering our Country again for any reason.
Want to stimulate the economy? One, don't spin up a big government project for the wall. There are several companies with experience in this kind of thing. Let the contract, let them work. Second, don't create or inflate a huge government department to do the deportation. Simply put a $1000 bounty on every illegal captured and turned over to DHS or Customs. Note there will be a $500 charge for anyone brought in wrongfully (who is a US citizen). Start these programs and illegals will begin self-deporting at a rate that will make it look like a human river near border crossings. Maybe offer a free pass to anyone who can prove they are in the process of self-deporting.
The very first paragraph:
“After two weeks spent waffling on immigration, and making noises on the subject largely indistinguishable from those of Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio, Donald Trump has settled on a hawkish position and a practical one. Trumps crowd-pleasing antics aside, in his immigration speech in Phoenix, Ariz., on Wednesday he laid out a sensible, realistic path forward on genuine immigration reform.”
Why is this necessary to start the article in this way; waffling, indistinguishable. There was no waffling and Trump was always very distinguishable from Jeb’s and Rubio’s positions.
For me, it sours the whole article because the author starts by reflecting the primary media/gope misinformation.
Even Mark Levin was forced to concede last night that Trump’s immigration plan is solid.
Actually, this is Hilly, now, in September!!
If you haven’t seen this Bill Clinton 1995 SOTU immigration statement, check it out.

No doubt Bill would see a lot to agree with Trump on immigration.
