That was fast: hours after being sued by Melania Trump, the Daily Mail has retracted and apologized for a story they published in August that claimed she worked as an escort. Melania Trump is seeking $150 million in damages in a defamation case.
In their apology, Daily Mail stated that the article was intended to be about the rumors surrounding Melania's past and the possible impact on Donald Trump's presidential campaign, and about how Melania Trump was an escort. The publication apologized for "any misinterpretation" that led to people believing that Melania was an escort.
To the extent that anything in the Daily Mail's article was interpreted as stating or suggesting that Mrs. Trump worked as an 'escort' or in the 'sex business,' that she had a 'composite or presentation card for the sex business,' or that either of the modeling agencies referenced in the article were engaged in these businesses, it is hereby retracted, and the Daily Mail newspaper regrets any such misinterpretation.
The Daily Mail newspaper and MailOnline/DailyMail.com have entirely separate editors and journalistic teams.
In so far as MailOnline/DailyMail.com published the same article it wholeheartedly also retracts the above and also regrets any such misinterpretation.
The Trump campaign has continued to insist that all modeling work done by Melania was "legitimate."
It is unclear as to if the lawsuit will proceed.
“The paper rolled the dice and came up snake eyes.”
And they will soon be writing a check!
It is also common in our political arena.
Spot on. The apology is given....the law suit will be dropped within the week.
No matter the phony story by the Daily Mail, the Trump campaign can't afford to keep this fake but titillating story regarding his wife in the news up to and beyond election day.

Are you kidding? DM makes more than $100,000 a DAY with their super-traffic website.
I suspect they didn’t want Trump to own the newspaper.
Under those circumstances, deals come quick, when push comes to shove.
BTW: Isn’t it the Left that makes every lady of the evening a princess before the movie is over. They revel in this stuff. They act as if it’s no big deal, and anything who thinks it is, is a jerk.
Then Trump runs for office, and they betray their own belief system to trash a woman for it. True or not, these people are such jerks.
They're not part of "Journolist", apparently...
This is just vindictive crap and I hope that the law suit continues...sub rosa.
Settle for $ 100,000,000 and give it to St. Jude’s and other worthwhile Children’s Hospitals.
Lighten up, Francis.
One of the better rags out there... I’d keep them on a short leash until the elections.
>> but Murdoch now HATES the Trumps
If true, gratuitous slander doesn’t help Murdoch in any way.
Take your own advice; it’s not my problem that you are unaware of very old news. :-)
And yes, you're correct, this mess doesn't help to quell the animosity/bad feeling.
Agreed. And no doubt there are other leftwing influences within the organization that are eager to influence the direction of News Corp.
The sons are going to destroy the old man's empire.
Daily Mail is not Murdoch owned.
For what it’s worth, I quite like the paper.
$150 million.
That’s a nice number.
I’d argue she is not a “public person.”
Also too, school is back in session. I suspect she doesn’t like disrupting Barron’s schedule to pull him out to travel, or to leave him at home.
