That was fast: hours after being sued by Melania Trump, the Daily Mail has retracted and apologized for a story they published in August that claimed she worked as an escort. Melania Trump is seeking $150 million in damages in a defamation case.
In their apology, Daily Mail stated that the article was intended to be about the rumors surrounding Melania's past and the possible impact on Donald Trump's presidential campaign, and about how Melania Trump was an escort. The publication apologized for "any misinterpretation" that led to people believing that Melania was an escort.
To the extent that anything in the Daily Mail's article was interpreted as stating or suggesting that Mrs. Trump worked as an 'escort' or in the 'sex business,' that she had a 'composite or presentation card for the sex business,' or that either of the modeling agencies referenced in the article were engaged in these businesses, it is hereby retracted, and the Daily Mail newspaper regrets any such misinterpretation.
The Daily Mail newspaper and MailOnline/DailyMail.com have entirely separate editors and journalistic teams.
In so far as MailOnline/DailyMail.com published the same article it wholeheartedly also retracts the above and also regrets any such misinterpretation.
The Trump campaign has continued to insist that all modeling work done by Melania was "legitimate."
It is unclear as to if the lawsuit will proceed.
Yes, but unlike the American press, they also print a lot of truth.
As the medicine man once said; "Eat the fish, spit out the bones."
Yep. There’s the campaign money.
She's already won the court case. Now it will go to settle out of court....so let's say.... one hundred million for St. Jude would be about right.
Hey...Gary Condit got $11 million for his defamation suit.
What scumbags. This is not an “oops sorry” kind of story. I hope the bastards can be made to grovel. Full page front page apology at a minimum. I don’t know how it works in the UK, but they do have much tougher libel standards, the Daily Mail may still have legal problems, I don’t know.
Exactly. Sue the bastards.
I guess this is why we haven’t seen more of Melania on the campaign.
Now we will I hope. She’s a great asset, especially on the immigration issue.
Chicken feed!
POS Daily Mail’s headline reads: “Melania Trump: A retraction”.. EXCUSE ME? Intentionally misleading headline made to appear as though Melania is retracting a statement.
I upped my first call to $100 million....all to St. Jude’s.
Sorry, but such a case is almost impossible to win, at least in US.
Mrs. Trump is a “public person.” As such it is her legal burden to PROVE that the story was published WITH THE INTENT of damaging Mrs. Trump, and the newspaper KNEW it was false.
Proving such intent is virtually impossible.
It would be an easier case in the UK, but still long and difficult.
You know little regards the art of the deal.
Original suit threatened is for 150M (M) which caused the retraction.
I think Jude's would be happy with say....
75 to 100M?

‘Jurors in the Hulk Hogan sex tape case (Gawker) ignored a plea for mercy Monday and added $25 million to the $115 million they already awarded ex-wrestler Hulk Hogan’ money.cnn.com
Let the lawsuit proceed. Make ‘em pay.
I revised it at post 29....to $100 million. (Tired now)
Nail them to the cross Mrs. Trump and dont let up.
no harm, no foul, carry on !
Sorry, too late for a retraction - pay up.
The FULL 150 million.
