Original Title: The Postal Service is losing millions a year to help you buy cheap stuff from China

Also from the article, we find that US based USPS' customers are funding this outrage. Ie., if I try to sell something to someone in Germany or China, I get whacked with higher postal fees than I otherwise would. (See Note 3 in the article). US jobs get killed in both directions...

Now, granted, this has not yet reached the level of tens of billions of dollars involved in other trade areas. But this is part of it, and would make for great attack ads, IMO, because this kind of crap is everywhere. This just happens to be an easily understood example that Trump could speak authoritatively about, after some research by his staff.

A two year old article that you felt you needed to change the title to?

I once bought a card of 6 lithium batteries from Hong Kong for $1.20 including postage. They arrived after only a week or so.

I remember wondering how in the world they could do that. BTW the batteries were fine.

BTW, I’ve also read on eBay forums that China subsidizes the shipping, as well. Can anyone go into detail or provide authoritative links regarding that?

As for what to do, contact auctionbytes blog at ecommercebytes.com, have them ask the campaign the questions, they’ll most likely get a response (and probably picked up by other media.) They’re extremely responsive.

I pay a Canadian on-line pharmacy about 1/10th the price American pharmacies charge for prescription drugs.
US big pharma can KMA.

Well boo hoo! I am supposed to pay his middleman markup ecause it creates job? That is rubbish. Let’s see its ok for him to buy direct but not me. I have an idea lets require thus guy to also buy through a middleman. See, anothe job created. Heck then we can require that go to buy through a middleman...etc until everyone has a job.

In reality what I dont give to him I keep and spend somewhere else.

His argument has the same flaw as the broken wind fallacy.

Drat, I was afraid of this. With the original title imposed, my original question fades away... Mods, should I repost as a vanity?

It’s written somewhere in the Post Office Charter: “Our purpose is to provide third-rate service and lose money doing it.”

I don’t get it. All I know is every time the rates go up, they tell you its because the gas costs rise. Well the gas costs have gone down, what no decrease? The USPS is always whining and still losing packages.

i buy stuff on ebay that is shipped from china.

I buy two 150 ml wash bottles for $1.53 delivered. On one of the packages the chinese postage was yuan 0.00. the vendor apparently paid no postage locally and it was turned over to the USPS for delivery.

As best I can tell, the product is not available in the USA in less than 4 dozen quantity
