I still had to go to school and I worked part time, but I spiraled badly into depression and crime and bad news for about 10 years.
Then turned it around.
Mom spent a very long time in psych after he died. I think it was the double whammy.

I guess we had no time. My mom was two years earlier disabled in a work accident and despite X-rays and proof insurance companies and government refused to pay out for about ten years on insurance she had paid for.
Yep, I illegally shortly after the death of dad went to work graveyard, paid my own college, insurance, food, gas and stayed home to instead contribute to paying off the mortgage.
School was understanding and the year dad died they did not jump down my back expecting me to be the student at full capacity that I could be that year.
We were poor then. I remember buying $1 tennis shoes that were orange and food coloring them with black dye to get my nice poop brown tennis shoe.
I had to play my tennis team stuff with a cracked racket patched with wood fill.
My student body cards from one year to the next showed I had worn the SAME shirt for the picture. I guess thank God I didn’t grow that fast that year.
At one point I remember my mom having friends leaving occasional $100 bills in the door we were so financially devastated.
My dad died from pneumonia and despite having TWO insurances the hospital refused to take him in because the insurances each said the other side should pay.
That resulted in a lawsuit against an insurance Co. for having probably caused the death of my father. Also laws have since been changed to prevent what happened to us.
