Not new.

Jehovah's witnesses pushed this issue on biblical grounds in the 1960's. In their interpretation of scripture, Christ forbids the taking of oaths, which they claim The Pledge to be. Several kids sat down through the pledge in my grade school as far back as 1961.

Had a good friend...way back in the 60's do the exact same thing. His mother was a J.W.

I never thought much of it...actually.
