The middle and upper classes have been the ones out there pushing for decriminalization and legalization measures, and they have also tried to demolish the cultural taboo against smoking pot. But they themselves have chosen not to partake very much. Which is not surprising. Middle-class men and women who have jobs and families know that this is not a habit they want to take up with any regularity because it will interfere with their ability to do their jobs and take care of their families.
But the poor, who already have a hard time holding down jobs and taking care of their families, are more frequently using a drug that makes it harder for them to focus, to remember things and to behave responsibly.

In fact, the typical user is much more likely to be someone at the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder, whose daily life is driven, at least in part, by the question of how and where to get more marijuana. Just consider the cost. Almost a third of users are spending a tenth of their income on marijuana. And 15 percent of users spend nearly a quarter of their income to purchase the drug. The poor have not only become the heaviest users, but their use is making them poorer.
To all the middle-class professionals out there reading this: Do you know anyone who spends a quarter of their income on pot? Of course not. But these are the people our policies and attitudes are affecting.

Potology - that’s a good one.
Reefer Madness is the only thing you should be watching.
I didn’t expect that you would have the courage to watch it.
I already knew you are a coward from talking with you previously.
I suspect you are a drunk too.
You need to put down that spliff and watch Reefer Madness a couple hundred times. Maybe with your eyes taped open.
Why don't you just do some yoga or something, instead of smoking drugs?
I don’t do drugs, you drunk.
Any drugs.
I am 100% sober all day every day.
Now watch the video and shut your ass up.
NOW PUT DOWN YOUR LIQUID LUNCH AND GO AHEAD AND WATCH IT, I DARE YOU.
FRiend, I've tried yoga, I do acupuncture, I've had cortisone injected into my spine, I've had an operation to kill the nerves in that area. I stretch that area every day.
I eat heaping teaspoons of turmeric in an attempt to utilize the anti inflammatory traits of that spice.
If there is another option, I am willing to give it a try.
Sadly, nothing does what MJ does. I wish there was something that did.
The same is true of the coffee bean and many, many other of God's creations that humans have both used, and abused, for centuries.
Fermentation adds to the list of God's used and abused beneficial gifts with ethanol being at the top of both lists.
You'd think we'd see that it's not the 'thing', but rather the heart that is the problem.
After all, Jesus, Himself, changed water into not just wine, but the very finest wine.
How many biblical quotes express the idea of "All things in moderation" and the sins of excess?
Humans also do crazy in moderation, most of the time, but there are some who will just let that filly run, especially those whose egos self-identify as being the most rational and/or the most religious among us.
As such, expressions like "don't throw out the baby with the bathwater" escape them.
What is worse, to my own regret, is how we so often just revel in self-condemnation by our own hypocrisy and false accusations, most often while tossing the whole tub, water and baby at those who don't agree with us.
It's soooo obvious, right? We must ban all potentially bad things, so people won't do bad things.
It would be like heaven here on earth, if only those bad things weren't here, too.
I've noticed that people who do the bridge regularly never have any complaints about their back.
So then, it must be an intrinsic mental illness that makes you babble on about drugs the way you do.
No, lush, I don’t babble, and drugs are a fact of this world, aren’t they? And you can’t make them go away, can you?
It’s up to each one of us to decide what we do in our lives, isn’t it?
That’s what I say.
Now go ahead and tell me that I am wrong.
This is what I do for my back, lush. Now put that in your glass and drink it.
Thats what I say.
Now go ahead and tell me that I am wrong.
Are you trying to tell me that your concept of the Pursuit of Happiness is your own, and not subject to being dictated by the self-righteous authoritarian whims of Prohibitionist zealots?
What a concept! It was called Freedom, last time I checked. In the absence of infringing on others' rights, it's perfectly American and entirely proper.
You're not wrong. In fact, you're absolutely right.
What's truly un-American is the bloated police state and ever expanding and intrusive big government which is necessary in order to enforce Contraband Law, and which is antithetical to any true belief in minimal government or individual choice.
The self-righteous somersaults that some will perform in a hysterical effort to rationalize abject Tyranny are truly breathtaking.
Like you, I'll "tolerate" Freedom, with all of its inconveniences and challenges, as opposed to adopting the overtly authoritarian view which rationalizes arbitrary law, and all the evils which flow from such illegitimate "solutions" to society's ills.
Tyranny's apologists notwithstanding, if you're not infringing on anybody's rights, then the State has no business threatening you with prison time for anything you choose to do in your pursuit of your happiness.
You get it. Thanks.
Vote Trump!
Hah!
I am trying to tell a few people this, especially one bonehead in particular, but they do not seem to get it.
Magnificent post, sargon, I really enjoyed reading that.
Go Trump!
Ah yes, the Tyranny that gets in the way of druggies selling drugs to our kids.
Well... let's just say they are a fact in YOUR world. In YOUR world they may even share the pedestal with Newton's laws.
yeah, that’s right, man, drugs only exist in my world, and no one else’s.
I’m the only one who has ever even spoken the word “drugs”.
Do you have anything of value to say or any legitimate point to make?
What is the point of this our conversation? I’m not going to learn anything from you, because you don’t know anything.
Idiot.
I don't know. I don't think I have much to learn from druggies.
You don’t seem to be able to remember that I do not do drugs. Any drugs. 100% sober all day every day.
Unlike yourself, obviously.
Just because a person does not agree with you, does not mean that person is a druggie.
It just means that you are dumb.
You don't seem to be able to understand that either I don't care or don't believe you. Or both.
