The middle and upper classes have been the ones out there pushing for decriminalization and legalization measures, and they have also tried to demolish the cultural taboo against smoking pot. But they themselves have chosen not to partake very much. Which is not surprising. Middle-class men and women who have jobs and families know that this is not a habit they want to take up with any regularity because it will interfere with their ability to do their jobs and take care of their families.
But the poor, who already have a hard time holding down jobs and taking care of their families, are more frequently using a drug that makes it harder for them to focus, to remember things and to behave responsibly.

In fact, the typical user is much more likely to be someone at the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder, whose daily life is driven, at least in part, by the question of how and where to get more marijuana. Just consider the cost. Almost a third of users are spending a tenth of their income on marijuana. And 15 percent of users spend nearly a quarter of their income to purchase the drug. The poor have not only become the heaviest users, but their use is making them poorer.
To all the middle-class professionals out there reading this: Do you know anyone who spends a quarter of their income on pot? Of course not. But these are the people our policies and attitudes are affecting.

A great start.
Some of those activities negatively affect the entire society (others)
Many Don't. Fewer still affect only the individual.
Can't view them all the same.
It's called Darwin Award participants...
Works for me, although I do not subscribe to overpopulation neuroses...
You sound just like Obama. Opinion as law.
Monomaniacal, ignorant and arrogant.
I have my own opinion... as valid as yours, without demanding anything of you (or anyone else,) against your will. My version:
That is not how you treat your own working, tax-paying citizens in a free Representative Constitutional Republic.
Best regards.
The second is that I have not behaved as you describe. At all.
ALL people with psychological, emotional and/or mental issues are never self aware. That's pretty much a given.
You work for the dial an argument call center?
No.
That's reserved for those that can't ever let go of an argument; must have the last word; and eschew introspection.
Have a nice evening.
I don’t understand what you wrote to me, and reading what you have written to others in this thread, frankly, you seem like a maniac.
Why don’t you do what’s best for you in your own life, and leave other people’s lives to them?
You have the right to control exactly one person in this world, and that is yourself, so get to it, because you are obviously failing to do so in this thread.
“ALL people with psychological, emotional and/or mental issues are never self aware.”
That isn’t true at all. Basically only psychosis and, to some extent, dissociative disorders leave one without self-insight. The other conditions - depression, anxiety, personality disorders, etc., leave the patient distressingly aware of the condition in most cases. There can be rationalization and denial of a particular diagnosis - but they almost always acknowledge something is wrong.
Which of the activities listed in post #77 affect the entire society?
That simply cannot be, because as everyone knows, alcohol is bad therefore it must be that drugs are good.
Drugmentalism. They can't stop talking about alcohol either.
And my criticism was gentle. I didn't compare it to meth or heroin, or anything else. I just said it makes people so relaxed they don't care about bettering themselves, and then the tax payer ends up paying for a lot of them. And that it's definitely not good for kids still in middle school. I hope, at least, that you agree with that last statement. (Although once people start defending pot, they can easily be lured into declaring that it's better for 11 year olds than caffeine.)
But potheads cannot bear even the mildest criticism. POT IS LIFE or you're a fascist.
“But potheads cannot bear even the mildest criticism. POT IS LIFE or you’re a fascist.”
Pure fallacy on multiple levels. God is Life. Christ is Hope & Salvation. Cannabis is a plant God gave to us to use as needed & to recreate with if one so chooses. I’m a “pothead” & I approve this post.

My only vice is my wifey
I live in a state in which pot was recently legalized. MJ use has skyrocketed, everyone and their felon uncle are now growing, albeit most illegally with no permits and there is so little LE and the county gov is corrupt, no one does anything. DH is a FF/first responder and crimes related to drug use and the “business” have skyrocketed.
I have done good amount of online research about mj and it is dangerous. Smoking it reduces the ability to think rationally, lowers IQ at least while intoxicated and when smoked longterm, permanantly. Sensory perception of course while intoxicated is way off as well as judgement of any kind.
I have “debated” (can’t really be called that) with pro-dopers on FR for years and elsewhere, and they are unable to discuss in any rational manner.
I also used to smoke mj decades ago before the THC content went sky high (thankfully only for about 2 1/2 years max) and so I know personally what it does to the consciousness, even with the low potency weed back then. I have also known people who smoke habitually, and what it does to them.
I hate it.
Gee who would have thought that?
“I hate it.”
Then don’t use it. No one will ever force you to. It’s not for everyone.
