TRUMP JUST PUT THE FEAR IN EVERY CONGRESSMAN WITH 1 EPIC PROMISE TO AMERICA
CONSERVATIVE TRIBUNE BLOG ^ | AUGUST 19, 2016 AT 1:45PM | BY: WILMOT PROVISO

For many establishment congressmen of both parties, being elected isn’t a chance to make a difference in the political life of America. It’s a sinecure that allows them to become fat off of special interest money and speaking fees.

Americans of all stripes are frustrated with this attitude, which is part of the reason why anti-establishment Donald Trump got the Republican nomination.

Now, Trump has made a huge move to end congressional sinecures and the politicos who occupy them. According to Associated Press, Trump told an audience in North Carolina that he would look into term limits for Congress if he were elected president.

Trump made the remarks Thursday afternoon while speaking before a group of local law enforcement officers in the swing state. A questioner asked the Republican nominee about it and said he wanted to “get these bums out.”

Trump gave him plenty to look forward to. He told the audience member that, “(w)e’re going to take a very serious look” at establishing term limits.

While it would take a constitutional amendment to accomplish, make no mistake — establishing term limits would arguably be the biggest accomplishment of any president since World War II.

Part of the mess we’re in as a country — especially in terms of debt, deficit and political pusillanimity — has to do with establishment politicians who hang around Washington for half a century or more.

One rarely (if ever) does this because they’re fighting for their constituents. They’re addicted to power and all that comes with it. This power, unfortunately, is often wielded at our expense, particularly when it comes to government spending.

> No more pensions. No more government medical.

No more legislation that affects the population but not themselves. In other words, no more exemptions.

A better idea, better than term limits for Congress, is to dismantle the federal bureaucracy.

And that in large measure IS within the purview of the President. The 'federal bureaucracy' is the Executive Branch. If Trump wants to reduce the size, scope, cost, and corruption of government the Executive Branch is where he can start.

Best thing that can happen to congress in 200 years.

Great idea but the only way he could make it actually happen would be to go from state capital to state capital pushing for a Convention of States. Congress is not going to vote itself out of power.

Also, it only increases pressures toward corruption -— people who know they cannot continue in the Congress are that much more likely to look for how to maximize their future opportunities -— which can mean pleasing “special interests” which could be sources of future employment and/or consulting gigs.

You hope that elected officials could be immune to such considerations, but ofc some numbers of them will be swayed.

Be careful what you wish for. In my mind, the real issue is the lifelong employment of members of the Federal bureaucracy, much more than Congressional seats.

The problem is human nature...................

No, the problem is human nature and OPPORTUNITY fostered by an abstruse system that protects those it knows are corruptible.

>>In the end, the massive, unaccountable bureaucracy will amass even more power.

Thank you!

People need to think long and hard about how to counter the administrative power of government.

Term limits have harmed every state that has done them.

It drags them inexorably leftward.

As of today, 8 states (AL, AK, FL, GA, IN, LA, OK, TN) have applied for a Convention of the States to formulate amendment proposals that would impose term limits on federal officers. Among the other items in the application are procedures for nullification and a balanced budget amendment.

If 26 more states apply for a convention using the same language (thus making 34 states), Congress must set the time and place for the convention.

Imagine: an EPA full of mid-level managers, or an FCC or FDA or ATF agents who fear no elected official...because they know all they have to do is “out last” them.

Federal Employees work for the President, not the Congress. "This too will pass" happens every 4 or eight years.

It will never pass Congress.

People are sick though of the venality, corruption and high-handed arrogance of Washington.

That’s not going to go away regardless of what happens in November.

In my view term limits would be a huge and tremendously beneficial improvement in the way the Federal Government operates in this country. What was Bill Buckley’s remark about preferring a Congress composed of the first 450 people listed in the New York telephone book? Something to the effect. It only takes a couple of terms for many (most?) of these legislators to ignore what’s in the best interest of our country and instead focus primarily on what’s in their own best interest. Time for President Trump to show these career politicians where the exit doors are.

Join the, "Two Term" Party!

The liberals are the ones who think that should be two terms in office, the moderates are the ones who think it should be only two terms per life time, the conservatives think it should be one term in office followed by one equivalent term in prison.
