EXCLUSIVE/ Two independent sources told EurActiv.com that the US has started transferring nuclear weapons stationed in Turkey to Romania, against the background of worsening relations between Washington and Ankara .
According to one of the sources, the transfer has been very challenging in technical and political terms.
Its not easy to move 20+ nukes, said the source, on conditions of anonymity.
According to a recent report by the Simson Center, since the Cold War, some 50 US tactical nuclear weapons have been stationed at Turkeys Incirlik air base, approximately 100 kilometres from the Syrian border.
During the failed coup in Turkey in July, Incirliks power was cut, and the Turkish government prohibited US aircraft from flying in or out. Eventually, the base commander was arrested and implicated in the coup. Whether the US could have maintained control of the weapons in the event of a protracted civil conflict in Turkey is an unanswerable question, the report says.
Another source told EurActiv.com that the US-Turkey relations had deteriorated so much following the coup that Washington no longer trusted Ankara to host the weapons. The American weapons are being moved to the Deveselu air base in Romania, the source said.
Deveselu, near the city of Caracal, is the new home of the US missile shield, which has infuriated Russia.

Don’t put it past Zippy to leave one or two behind as a parting gift.
Sure, let’s advertise the move.

Our dear NATO ally, Turkey
NATO is a joke. Its another big-government, progressive-left bureaucracy, standing watch over the cultural destruction of Europe, providing security-theater for public.
Well, maybe we are doing something right. Been a very long time. Getting nukes out of the hands of a radical Islamic dictatorship is always a good idea.
I’m surprised Obama isn’t moving them to IRAN for Safe Keeping.
If true that they are being moved, I can’t imagine why they would be going to Romania, a relatively new NATO country that I imagine doesn’t have much in the way of US presence. Somewhere like Aviano would seem to make much more sense.
Probably could have loaded them all in one or two C-5s in the middle of the night and had it done before the Turks even knew.
This is political signaling. Wouldn't put it past Hussein to leave a couple in places where the Turks could seize them.
I’m sure this was done without the authorization from the O’muslim brotherhood regime.
Let’s hope this story is true.
Romania? Got to be joking.
Turkey is using “refugee bombs” against Europe anyway.
It could be designed to give the Russians the excuse to retaliate by entering the Ukraine.
Remember: It was Obama who told Russia to wait until after the 2012 election and then they could go forward with some unnamed plan or another.
What???
Obama's out of office???
When did that happen?
There is no reason to have nukes in Turkey anyway. It’s just a cold war artifact mentality.
Obama will make a “mistake” and leave one behind, which will be used in DC when Trump wins the presidency.
We should NEVER have nuclear weapons in ANY muslim country.
Good!

‘Specially since we know ISIS-Muslim Caliphate wants fissibile material for a potent dirty bomb attack.

I assume we have contingency plans to disable the devices should it look like we’re going to lose control of them...
