NEW YORK Donald Trump is shaking up his campaign's leadership amid flagging poll numbers, NBC News has learned.
Kellyanne Conway already a senior adviser to the campaign told NBC News she has been promoted to the role of campaign manager. She confirmed that Paul Manafort will stay on as campaign chair but said Stephen Bannon, the co-founder of conservative Breitbart News, will come on board as campaign CEO.
The moves were first reported by The Wall Street Journal and mark yet another round of internal shakeups for a campaign that seems to be struggling to find consistent footing.
I want to win," Trump told the newspaper. "That's why I'm bringing on fantastic people who know how to win and love to win."
The Trump campaign parted ways with controversial campaign manager Corey Lewandowski after the primaries ended, citing a new phase of the campaign.
Manafort had been unofficially filling the role of campaign manager after Lewandowski's departure, but himself has been the subject of controversy amid questions over his ties to ousted Ukrainian Prime Minister Victor Yanukovich.
Trump has been trailing in polls to rival Hillary Clinton, with some Republicans publicly pressuring the Republican National Committee to abandon Trump's bid and instead focus on down ballot races.
The latest NBC News / SurveyMonkey Weekly Election Tracking Poll showed Clinton leading Trump by 9 points, 50 percent to 41 percent.
“CNN’s Chris Cuomo is claiming that Bannon will use falsehood “scorched earth” approach, and that a return to “native Trump” will turn off voters who want an honest and presidential leader.”
Oh brother. CNN minions should be the last people talking about scorched earth falsehoods. Their non-stop partisanship since the conventions has turned this former viewer off.
News reports (I know) claim that the reorganization was recommended by Trump’s son in law, Jared Kushner. I mention this just to add one more name (at least!) to your mental calculus. Trump may have tasked Jared with some sort of monitor, recommend function. “Hatchet man” in the vernacular.
I watch CNN from time to time, when I get nostaligic for Baghdad Bob. The hosts there are over the top! Especially, IMO, the ladies. Not so much Camerotta, she’s a piker. But Costello, Baldwin, Burnett are a total hoot.
She gave an excellent interview on Fox the other night, with Trish Regan I think - she did amazing!
Hmmmm...because down a few is still down?
I love Bannon on the Bauer and Rose show on Sundays on Sirius Patriot when he’s just speaking. As a host, if you did a drinking game every time he used those words, you’d be drunk in an hour — referring to Alex as his wingman, calling callers hobbits, etc. I just wish other more seasoned hosts would advise him if he returns to the sho as host.
He is a great benefit to the Trump campaign though!
As I recall, on several scandals Obie said he'd found out about it "in the papers."
Yep, they had to come up with something so they could avoid talking about Trump’s speech. Perhaps these new people will be able to teach the campaign how to dodge the media tactics.
Laura for press secretary in the Donald cabinet
Trump is a builder. Buildings go through phases. That’s what we are seeing is the great project to make America Great Again
Interesting. I know Kushner is friends with Corey Booker and a political Independent, but he seems to have a good head on his shoulders and to really believe in his father-in-laws campaign. Hes also a good writer.
It shouldnt be long before we find out if his advice was good or not (if the report’s accurate). A non-establishment, pro-Trump Breitbarter and a reasonable, talented former Cruzer (who specializes in polls and targeting voters) seem on paper like they would be good choices for someone like Trump.
“Perhaps these new people will be able to teach the campaign how to dodge the media tactics.”
I really hope that is why Bannon was brought on the team. If he doesn’t work on that as one of his responsibilities, it seems like potentially a bit of a waste to bring a media person into such an important position.
She’s my future ex-wife!
Hillary’s voters know the fix is in and don’t need to attend rallies. Just send money and attend fundraisers.
Bias
Not bias per se, but the Trump campaign stupidly gave them something else to talk about.
Why tf did they need to announce this bit of news today, the morning after one of Trump's best speeches? It's like they cancel themselves out on a regular basis.
They could have waited one effing day.
Conway is the consummate professional. She worked for Cruz until he imploded and immediately signed on with Donald Trump. She’s first and foremost a republican and thinks the NeverTrumper movement is the dumbest thing she’s ever heard of and predicts by election time that they’ll all vote for Trump.
Clinton is the worst candidate in history. Trump will win in a landslide. Why do you bother listening to Clinton cronies like Begala?
I don’t know - honestly the National Security speech last week and the Law and Order speech last night, both via prompter, were by far Trump’s best speeches - strong, lots of specifics and particulars, and a good, defiant yet hopeful tone.
What’s your problem FRiend? I didn’t say Ted was a winner. I said KellyAnne was. You do comprehend English I hope?
I find them entertaining in a Baghdad Bob sort of way. I don't take them seriously. I post the over the top remarks because they are outrageous, not because I agree with them. I did the same thing with CNN after the speech last night, to see how well those remarks tracked into the news cycle as "manufactured issues."
