The purpose for investing in precious metals is to transfer a block of wealth from now into MANY YEARS AFTER THE WORLD HAS FINISHED RECOVERING FROM TEOTWAWKI. Possession of precious metals DURING the siege is a detriment as others will vie to steal it. Precious metals are a time teleportation strategy to re-establish a degree of societal position based on level of wealth.
The brag will be she got the economy moving. Then she'll have created jobs confiscating guns.
Most everyone has some number of firearms. Ammunition, ammunition, ammunition, the coin of the realm in such a circumstance.
If Hitlery gets elected it will be the easiest thing for her to tax and regulate into oblivion. Prices are very reasonable now. If Trump wins, what the heck, you can never have too much ammo. Put it in usgi ammo cans and wait for the zombie apocalypse.
Gems are better than precious metals for alternative currency. From a practical standpoint, they are easier to transport and cannot be detected with a metal detector. The biggest downside is they aren’t fungible. PMs can be cut up without loss of value ; gemstones lose value if cut, so you must denominate them by size and grade.
Before everyone starts yelling. Yes, any investment should be after you have your store in order. You can’t eat or shoot gems or gold.

A good stock of wipes, can extend the tp supply. Corn cobs will be in short supply during a shtf situation.
There is a lot more to prepping than stocking up on firearms & ammo. Look to water supply/s & long term food supply, shelter, safety, ect...Having lots of firearms is not the answer. Having a small community around of like minded folks will go a very long way to surviving any major disaster.
Or just place them by sunny windows inside your house.
That said, once you acquire the basic equipment and build your first one, the rest are almost as simple as changing a tire.
