Coalition troops forced to allow ISIS fighters to flee Syrian battlefield

U.S. and coalition troops were forced to allow hundreds of Islamic State commanders, fighters and their families to flee the embattled northern Syrian town of Manbij, fearing any attempt to attack the escaping forces would end in massive civilian casualties.

A convoy of a “hundred to a couple of hundred” individuals associated with the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, left Manbij Friday shortly after the Syrian Defense Forces, the American-backed paramilitary force battling the Islamic State in the country, wrested the city from the terrorist organization’s control, according to Col. Chris Garver, the top U.S. military spokesman in the region.

American intelligence assets detected the convoy leaving the Syrian city late Friday, but opted not to attack since any strike would result in massive civilian casualties, Col. Garver said Tuesday.

No, this is probably best.

Remember how bad all Americans felt when the muzzie pieces of chit killed all of those civilians on 911?

Wouldn't do to put them throught something like that. /S

.. our efforts there have been a joke and its because we support some jihadis ..

US air strikes have not been a 'joke' and Manbij is proof.

ISIS have not been 'supported' by the US and Manbij is proof.

Some of you guys need to jolt your lazy asses off the couch and learn some facts about the Syrian civil war.

They need to fire (or shoot) nine out of every ten lawyers employed by DOD. Then maybe then we could win a war or two.

If we’d fought the Krauts or Japs like this we would now be speaking German and Japanese or more likely both.

Dead ISIS troops can’t fight again. Simple rule of warfare.

Destroy the hardcore of the hardcore of the enemy’s forces. Collateral damage be damned. Bury them quick; bury them deep. The Desert hides many secrets! (from an old Richard Carlson SciFi movie - possibly “The Beast with a 1,000 Eyes”).

0dungheap has an agreement with ISIS that they can live to see another day if they promise NOT to attack the United States until AFTER he leaves office.

Sure has been quiet lately, eh? No mass cop killings since before the DNC convention, either. Hmmmm..

Just more p*ssification of America. When you elect a P*ssy, it is no surprise that the people he commands would be forced to behave like P*ssies.

He would show no hesitation to destroy us and our families though.

I’m surprised obama didn’t order the abandonment of all weaponry and vehicles.

You joke, but given the incredible ease with which ISIS went into Iraq and grabbed large quantities of tanks, helicopters, Humvees and artillery, I have long suspect this f***ing bastard did exactly that.

Oh, ok. So Fiji could completely conquer America if they bring a kindergarten with them? Makes perfect sense.

There is tons of well-documented evidence of how we support the jihadis. Only an idiot sees any difference in ISIS and a moderate rebel. And my lazy ass has quite enough experience there. Bite me.

Kill the ISIS terrorists, kill their families, kill their friends, kill anyone who sells or provides them with food, shelter or aid and kill the people who provide them with funding or weapons.

You don’t have a damned clue. Look up highway of death in Kuwait. And last I checked, the jihadis and isis and al nusra are not under the law of war. Actually, they are. In tgeir status, they are not protected combatants and can be summarily executed.

Well it is true that they let a lot go free, but many more were killed (like 10 or 20 killed for every survivor).

They throw around the number of 100 ISIS surviving, but we will probably never know if it was less than 60, or over 500 plus 1,000 family members. I’d guess that more than 100 evacuated, with their families, and many family members of their dead. We do know that the Kurds stacked dead ISIS bodies for 2 1/2 months beforehand. The SDF claims that they had 2,300 enemy bodies from the operation.

In the end, ISIS had collected lots of hostages, many from the most prominent families in town. The Kurds and local Arabs (SDF) who did all of the fighting on the ground, often had their immediate family members among the hostages. Many of the fighters were from the town. Nobody wants to lose their parents or children on the last day of the war, if they don’t have to.

Negotiated retreats have been common when pushing ISIS out of areas - ISIS had been making an especially hard stand in Manbij, until it was absolutely untenable.

Isn’t this truly bizarre when the U.S. and the Allies had no qualms about firebombing German and Japanese cities and killing hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians? And in this case we’re talking about people directly associated with terrorists.

There is a difference, which is why they fight each other. Extend your research beyond Dirty Dozen reruns, Rino.
