U.S. and coalition troops were forced to allow hundreds of Islamic State commanders, fighters and their families to flee the embattled northern Syrian town of Manbij, fearing any attempt to attack the escaping forces would end in massive civilian casualties.
A convoy of a hundred to a couple of hundred individuals associated with the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, left Manbij Friday shortly after the Syrian Defense Forces, the American-backed paramilitary force battling the Islamic State in the country, wrested the city from the terrorist organizations control, according to Col. Chris Garver, the top U.S. military spokesman in the region.
American intelligence assets detected the convoy leaving the Syrian city late Friday, but opted not to attack since any strike would result in massive civilian casualties, Col. Garver said Tuesday.

The Russians don’t seem to be bothered by such niceties.
And we’re there because?
A national embarrassment. Our pussified senior officer corps strikes again. Glad they weren’t around for Desert Storm.
Obama is keeping his hopes alive
Just more CIA writing the news copy. They really need better propagandists.
Outside the cities there is desert wasteland...no? Couldn’t the “coalition forces” blasted them to Hell there on the open plain? Something is fishy.
Also, letting the bastards escape means two things. You get to fight them again at their next defensive position. And then, you lose an amazing chance of wholesale capturing of war criminals who will soon escape back to Europe.
Nice work “coalition”. /s
The remaining 100 Da'esh terrorists in Manbij and 400-600 related civilians left through a "safe passage corridor" provided by YPG/SDF in order to end hostilities in the city early. This battle raged for 72 days - 31 May 2016 to 12 August 2016, and involved US, French, and possibly German and UK special operators, and air strikes from the "US-led coalition" that has had arguably very little success against Islamic State in Syria.

At this point, “Better Red than Mohamed”
I would just turn over the whole Arabian peninsula to Putin and tell him he can use as many nukes as he needs provided the following.
1. No nuking within 200 mile radius of Israel.
2. He splits the oil with us 50/50 after the radiation cloud clears.
Just stick to the pistol range and leave tactics to the experts, Tackleberry:
Its not a victory when you deliberately let the enemy run away to fight again. And when the worst collection of war criminals since Berlin in 45 were allowed to run away, shave beards and head for the EU to resume their previous lives.
Our efforts there have been a joke and its because we support some jihadis, for some geopolitical reasons. Nothing for an American to celebrate there.
Strafe em. Every one of them.
What are we doing there, other than arming and enabling enemy forces?
“Glad they werent around for Desert Storm.”
If we fought WW2 this way, you’d be reading this in Japanese or German right now.
