WILMINGTON, N.C. (WNCN/WBTV) Gov. Pat McCrory said he will ask the Supreme Court to weigh in on the voter ID law Wednesday.
McCrory made the announcement during Donald Trumps rally in Wilmington Tuesday afternoon.
There are thirty other states in the United States over thirty other states that know common sense shows you show an ID when you vote, McCrory told the crowd. Right? One person, one vote. That should be our rules.
The request comes after an appeals court decided it wont delay enforcement of its ruling striking down the states photo identification requirement and other election restrictions, including reducing early in-person voting by seven days.
Last week, the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied the stay after state leaders attorneys requested that the ruling be set aside as they ask the U.S. Supreme Court to consider the case.
A 4th Circuit panel had determined a 2013 law Republicans approved amounted to intentional discrimination of black voters.
Last weeks order says the harm to disenfranchised voters outweighs granting a delay. Last weeks injunction means no voter ID mandate and 17 days of early voting with same-day registration.
I would add, "One LIVE person, one vote."
Go, Gov. Pat!
One live American Citizen, one vote.
Not a smart move. In their current configuration either they will deadlock, or Anthony Kennedy will pull another of his patented flip-flops and screw voter ID for the rest of history.
Heard him speak at a Trump rally in NC last month. He reminded people where the exits were AND the ‘restrooms’. LOL
I stand corrected, and the corrections are necessary in these degenerate times.
Nothing like making a bad situation worse... taking something to a SCOTUS packed with liefetime appointed liberal hacks makes things worse.
The Supreme Kangaroo Court.
This makes me wonder how it is not possible to get a photo ID, just how dumb do you have to be not to get one? Looks like the Dems will stoop to anything to win, even out right theft and murder. This country is done.
If SCOTUS agrees that proper identification is not a requirement to cast a ballot, this election is over.
We can overcome media bias, but we cannot overcome voter fraud.
Good for Pat.
Stop college/university admissions of all Black students, and throw out the ones already enrolled.
If they’re too stupid/incompetent to obtain a personal ID, then they shouldn’t be in an institution of higher learning.
That should shake-up the ACC.
I think to get a stay it goes to the scotus Judge designated for that region
Go McCrory! I just sent another contribution.
Its not so much the ids as all the other changes. From the ruling:
Before enacting that law, the legislature requested data on the use, by race, of a number of voting practices. Upon receipt of the race data, the General Assembly enacted legislation that restricted voting and registration in five different ways, all of which disproportionately affected African Americans, Motz wrote.
The circuit court found that the law harmed African American participation, but did little to combat fraud, the stated purpose. Notably, the state had failed to identify even a single individual who has ever been charged with committing in-person voter fraud in North Carolina. On the other, the General Assembly did have evidence of alleged cases of mail- in absentee voter fraud. The General Assembly then exempted absentee voting from the photo ID requirement.
