AP: Paul Ryan wins primary
WISN-TV ^ | 8/9/2016 | Associated Press

Posted on 08/09/2016 6:44:05 PM PDT by Kevin C

House Speaker Paul Ryan wins primary, defeats longshot GOP challenger praised by Donald Trump.

Ryan was being challenged by Paul Nehlen.

Nehlen had been courting Trump supporters and won praise from the Republican presidential nominee last week. But Trump endorsed Ryan days later.

Ryan had largely ignored Nehlen in what had been a sleepy primary before Trump thanked Nehlen on Twitter for his comments defending Trump. Nehlen won the backing of some prominent conservative figures, including former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, but it wasn't enough to overcome Ryan's popularity in his southeastern Wisconsin district.

Ryan was first elected in 1998 and this is his first re-election win since becoming speaker last fall.

Tell me about it. Anyone who voted for this punk, please recuse yourself from the Republican party. You are a FRAUD

236 members of the Republican caucus in the House voted for Ryan to be the Speaker.
10 House Republicans voted for someone else.
Its not the voters of Wisconsin who put Paul Ryan in the Speaker’s chair.

Trump endorsed Ryan, and thereby lost nothing.

But we did.

Ryan 84% of vote with 50% of vote in.

Ryan’s bad. Trump probably knew Ryan was going kill Nehlen, so his endorsement meant nothing and it let morons say, “Oh, goody! Party unity!” Trump said something like, “We’ll deal with Ryan later.”

I hope the Commucrat beats him in the general election. Losing one seat would be worth not having him as speaker.

This IS what the Republican party is. Trump is the outlier. But the Republican is about to get a lot smaller if they take Trump down.

Did the ‘Rats turn out for ‘Rat Ryan?

If they were voting for their own interests, they did.

Wisconsin had a great chance to throw out one of the establishment commies and they failed.

I guess bringing home the government bacon is more important to them. The communist attitude in this country is just getting worse and worse.

It’s only a matter of time before we’re full blown communist with people not having the courage to take this head on while we have a chance. We will get the leaders we deserve.

an 85-15 spread says there were bigger problems than just this year.

Ryan is entrenched and Nylan must have had issues.

Hope the cheeseheads remember Ryan when they get their fare share of terrorist “refugees” and illegal immigrants.

“Must be doing a lot of great things for the folks back home.”

He brings home the bacon. Goes good with cheese. That is, until Ryan declares that bacon is now “Haram.”

Well, we knew this would probably happen. All the polls indicated as such. It’s Wisconsin - home of Ted Cruz’s final stand. The #NeverTrump movement is strong there. It would be interesting to see the margins.

Keep in mind that Wisconsin Republicans might like Paul Ryan, but the state obviously doesn’t too much because he couldn’t even carry his state, which went blue, in the 2012 election. Wisconsin will probably go blue this year too.

I commend him for running a great campaign and trying. Nehlen put up a heck of a fight and made him squirm. He had to spend money (all from his big donors of course) and flipped his trade position some (he’ll probably flip back now that this is over).

I know Donald Trump is probably disappointed tonight. He probably endorsed Ryan because he knew this was the result and thought this would make it easier to work with Ryan. It won’t, and I’m sure Ryan will be back to running to the media to trash Trump shortly.
