LIVE THREAD: Ryan vs Nehlen Wisconsin 1st Congressional District Primary 8/09/2016
WisPolitics.com ^

Posted on 08/09/2016 9:50:32 AM PDT by nikos1121

1st CD, Republican: Incumbent Paul Ryan, of Janesville, and Paul Nehlen, of Williams Bay.

I absolutely have nothing on this election, so I thought I'd start a thread, and we can add to it as information comes in. Some polls have Ryan way ahead, and a few find it less certain. On the other hand, wasn't this the climate before the Cantor election? He was sitting fat dumb and happy with a big lead in the polls?

If I were a betting man, I'd have to put my money on Ryan and by all counts, he's a very popular guy up there, but then again, so is Obama.

Nehlen is wonderful! He is conservative—smaller government, less regulations, strong borders, anti-immigration, NO TTP global trade stuff. Strong on school local control.

I think Nehlen got more national than local attention. Wisconsin talk radio is still very critical of Trump and pro-Ryan. Nehlen did not have the $$ or name recognition. Ryan refused to debate him, avoided media interviews.

If I lived in Ryan’s district, I’d have to vote for the Democrat. I can’t stand his sanctimonious holier than thou attitude. And if Donald gets it, he will be a thorn in Trump’s side.

If you don’t like his influence as Speaker, take it up with the 236 Republicans who voted him into that job.

Exactly. I plan to enjoy watching Trump play him like a fiddle.

“If Ryan ever stopped conspiring with Mittens & CO to screw Trump, I might like him.

Until then he’s a pos. “

Ditto. Though it looks like Trump made the right call endorsing him (why back a loser?).

What kind of influence? Like bailing out Chrysler? very soon Puerto Rico? Sponsoring Odumbo’s budget? Continuing to give Illegals and the lazy a handout and importing Muslims from Syria?

With this kind of thinking this country has no hope.

I have gone to several of Ryan’s townhall meetings. He has great ideas. None of which will get passed if we have democrat majorities or Obama or Hillary as president.

I am not in his district but I live close enough that I get the same radio and TV and other media, so I have been well aware of Ryan’s popularity and the very low probability of him losing his seat for a long time. I have good Christian conservative friends in his district who are as sincere in their belief that he is a good man and a good representative as you are in yours to the contrary.

This is how our system works, Congressmen who are accountable to only 700,000 people in their home district are given committee chairmanships and even Speakership, where they have much broader influence. I can’t help that you don’t like it. I am only telling you how it is, kinda like being the assistant-to-the-Mayor-of-Realville.

With all due respect, you would vote with him? Seriously??!?!?

So you are one of the Freepers that folks have been talking about who actually support Ryan? Whyyyy????? Although Ryan was viewed as a Conservative change-maker when he FIRST was elected many years ago, he has now become one of the elites. He is nothing more than a political uniparty globalist.

Regardless of his treatment of Trump, why could you support him????

...and I don’t care about the Walker improving the fiscal plight of Wisconsin—Freepers know that Ryan had nothing to do with that.

Ryan is GOPe all the way...totally bought in to the Washington elite Uniparty....

Just 2 weeks ago even tho he was at his home, he refused to meet with mothers of children who have been murdered by illegal immigrants who were holding a press conference outside his house...mothers!!! This was after he refused to respond to their letters and requests to meet in Washington :(

Ryan is for massive illegal and immigration/cheap labor, open borders, he put off budget issues till after the 2016 election. He does not think illegal aliens should be incarcerated either...does not want to clog the prisons...

Why in the world would you vote for him??? Please reconsider your position.

Oh, BTW, I lived in Wisconsin for years—actually lived in Wisconsin First Congressional District, so I am not unfamiliar with Wisconsin politics or Ryan.

Illegal immigrants and their supporters are happy tonight.

Hillary Clinton is happy tonight. This big win for Beltway Ryan will only embolden Ryan to continue his personal attack fraggings of Trump and his constant undermining of Trump campaign.

People usually have a way of supporting their local RINOs, no matter what - it’s everybody else’s RINO that must go.

Yep. My RINO isn’t the problem syndrome. You can see it in this very thread when Amnesty Ryan supporters dump on us and run when challenged

As for Paul Ryan, there’s not a bit of useful “wonk” in that wanker
