A dark horse who appeared out of the Wisconsin woodwork, businessman Paul Nehlen, was reportedly neck-and-neck with House Speaker Paul Ryan (shown) in the primary polls taken in early July. Pundits pooh-poohed those polls as being unreliable, but Ryan has since adjusted his primary campaign strategy to keep the public from asking him unscripted questions, queries that Nehlen keeps raising. Ryan doesnt want to become another Eric Cantor, the former House Majority Leader who lost to a nobody in 2014.
Nehlen suddenly became a national figure and symbol of the countrys populist uprising on Tuesday when Donald Trump turned Ryans words into a quasi-endorsement of Nehlen. Back in May, when asked if he was ready to endorse Donald Trump for the presidency, Ryan waffled: Im just not ready to do that at this point. Im not there right now. Trump trumpeted his response immediately

I agree with that analysis.
I think you may have missed the point here. Zero has set the precedent. Trump does not need Congress. They have made themselves irrelevant.
Excellent response on his part. Even if he doesn’t appreciate Trump’s endorsement of Nehlen’s opponent, he acknowledges the strategic reasons behind it and short-circuits yet another possible “GOP CIVIL WAR!!11!!!1” news cycle.
I hope this guy wins.
Excellent point! I get the feeling that Trump already has surrogates pushing for Nehlen. If Nehlen wins (I pray to God he does!), I think his ire for Trump will be minimal.
Why did Trump endorse him? Has he lost his mind? What has this piece of rat filth Ryan EVER done for Trump?
That’s not the point here, but your scenario is also a possibility which really makes Trump’s endorsement a non-issue.
Why? Ryan is obviously a Democrat posing as a Republican. I can’t see how any person can honestly support this guy and call themselves a Republican, it’s like voting for Nancy Pelosi.
Well.....it’s anecdotal unless you’ve personally polled everyone who lives in that town.......and they gave you an honest answer.
You gave a rather broad statement.
That's now how this works. Nehlen's set to catch a possible tsunami. The odds of him being able to repeat this upset, even with the support of POTUS (why would the President get involved here?) is highly unlikely. This is Nehlen's shot, and he's doing a good job making the most of it.
If Ryan's not worried, he'd better reexamine the situation.
Trump endorsed Ryan yesteday. I wish he hadn’t. Ryan will now win.
You absolutely don’t know this.....
....so stop throwing shade on Trump!
I have been repeatedly making this point for a year. The actions of any person do not exist in a vacuum, behavior is a play set on the stage of the environment. The Founding Fathers were able to do what they did because the “stage had been set”. (Think Jung, Zeitgeist). The current stage has been set and at it’s center is a tyrant’s throne with all the attendant levers of power in place. This throne has been carefully crafted over the span of a century. The election will determine who gets access to it. Our hope is Trump will use it to “change the course of history” creating a NEW stage for a return to the virtues that once blessed our country.
Our next leader will be a tyrant. No other possibility. Where that leader takes us is the question and only God can determine that. Once having earned that throne only Trump provides any possibility that it will be used in our behalf and only Trump and God have any idea whether Trump will do it.
I haven’t detected a single bit of ‘ire’ directed toward Mr. Trump from Paul Nehlen.
Quite the opposite really!
Ryan wins big with or without Trump's endorsement. It's irrelevant.
This was about Trump trying to salvage something of the Ryan-Walker-Johnson coalition that controls the Wisconsin GOP in hopes of being able to compete there in the general.
Ryan is far more powerful and popular in Wisconsin than Trump is.
“Ryan is heavily favored in his district and most people there like him and dislike the other guy - just saying.”.......
Sounds to me like “hear say”. We’ll know on Wednesday.
Foley lost the general election not the primary.
Ryan is going to win and win big. He will give Trump no credit for it and will instead be a thorn in the side of a President Trump. We all know that will be what happens.
