Great memories! I lived in Marigny for a few years on St. Ferdinand, when I was stationed in NOLA for the Navy. By the time I got there the crime was pretty bad, but we got to see a lot of Mardi Gras Indian coming out parties.

He had a hotel in Biloxi for a time and would play in the bar there periodically. I got to see him a couple of times. The crowds were small. We lost Acker Bilk recently also.

I’m talking late 60s. Wasn’t bad then- Elysian Fields and Rampart
John Kennedy Toole lived on the block. Warzone now. Creeps me out. Wouldn’t set foot there if they paid me.

I was a member of the Ohio State University Marching Band when we played in the Sugar Bowl Jan 2, 1978. We played one piece during halftime when Pete Fountain played an amazing solo with us as backup. Will never forget that.

I hear the late 60s was a great time there, I was there from 1989 to 2005. Even though it was pretty bad by then, I miss it terribly. Hubig’s bakery was right down the street, every morning we could smell the fried pies. Also the green coffee beans stacked in the warehouses. We were at St. Ferdinand and Dauphine. Bywater was just a few blocks away after the railroad tracks. It totally went into the toilet after Katrina. It’ll never be the same.
