Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus is "apoplectic" over Donald Trump's refusal to back House Speaker Paul Ryan or Sen. John McCain, a top Republican source said.
Priebus called several Trump staffers, including campaign manager Paul Manafort, to express his "extreme displeasure" with Trump's comments, the source with knowledge of the conversations told NBC News.
Trump, in an interview with The Washington Post published Tuesday, said of Ryan "I'm not quite there yet" echoing language used by Ryan when he was reluctant to endorse Trump in May. Ryan eventually endorsed the GOP nominee. A spokesperson fro Ryan said Tuesday neither Ryan nor anyone on his team sought an endorsement from Trump.
The friendship between Priebus and Ryan goes back decades. Priebus was the GOP chairman for Ryan's congressional district before he was the state party chair. Ryan credited Priebus with the Republican takeover of Wisconsin in 2010.
There was talk Tuesday that key Republicans could come out against Trump. If Trump falls further in the polls, the party could come up with a backup plan to protect downballot races, the source said. "We have to figure out how to tread water," the source said.
Ryan deserves this. I am over joyed at Trump’s reluctance to endorse him. To
How about firing both Paul Ryan and the Leftist propagandist at the same time?
Get rid of as many as possible as quick as possible, strip them of credibility before they get cover.
But, but, but, Hillary Clinton has nothing but good things to say about McCain.
Good grief, the GOPe is full of gutless cowards. So afraid of Obama, the DNC, and the media.
I don’t doubt you for a second and your prediction is right on.
Ryan is juiced into government and making millions, he could give 2 shits about everyone out here paying his way.
See post 23.
Trump is going to have to start a whole new political party, free of all the corruption within both Dems and Reps, and try to take back our government.
Either way, after this election, the Republican party is dead. If Trump wins, then it will be a new party with an American first focus. If he loses, all the voters who are only in the party for Trump will leave, and the Reps go the way of the Whigs.
They have enough guts to bad mouth Trump. When do the democraps ever bad mouth hillary?
If Ryan would stop with the constant criticism, perhaps he would earn the endorsement...
I’m sure this isn’t the first time a president or presidential contender has supported an incumbent’s primary challenger. I certainly think Paul Nehlen and Kelli Ward will better represent their constituents and their country than Ryan and McCain have.
Trump is just making him sweat it out.
It does. But that’s also who Trump is.
He took down 16 GOPes to win the nomination. That’s why the GOPes such as Ryan are more openly allying with the dems. They both hate the Constitution and are just interested in power and money.
Trump alredy had/has both. That’s not why he’s in this battle. He’s in it to Make America Great Again. That is not just a slogan.
Go Trump and Pence!
This is rich. Plenty of vote-your-conscience egos have already said they won’t endorse Trump. Trump returns the favor and its a Pity Party meltdown!
Was Priebus apoplectic when Ryan was being a RINO a$$wipe? Screw him. AND Ryan.
I don’t think he was “apopletic” when Ryan has come out on multiple occasions criticizing Trump...
I just donated to Nehlen again. Now it’s prayers.
Article is by Kate tur, She is a biggest liar. Can’t trust her story
So why wasn’t Rinse “apoplectic” with Ryan’s public scolding of Trump like he was a child for MONTHS? Pretty obvious double standard here.
I think a lot of us are just going to refuse to go along anymore.
The government doesn’t own us, but they think they do.
Eff them.
