The new US national Olympic teams opening ceremony uniform design raised quite a few eyebrows around the world because some of its components bear a striking resemblance to the Russian flag.
On July 29 Ralph Lauren and the United States Olympic Committee proudly unveiled the design of the US teams 2016 Opening Ceremony uniforms.
But while many people rushed to praise the stylish look of the new garments, others were quick to point out one very strange detail the fact that the color pattern of athletes striped T-shirts sticking out of their buttoned-up blazers clearly resembles the Russian national flag.
And while the color sets of the two countries flags are quite similar, the way the stripes on the US athletes outfits are aligned exactly like the white, blue and red bars on the Russian flag it looks either like a very strange coincidence or a rather embarrassing accident. Who knows, maybe Russias next Olympic outfit will be featuring stars and stripes!
Hit me too. How gauche.
True and pathetic.Press never reported it.That’s how much they care about the flag.No wonder they didn’t catch the uniform .
"Ahoy polloi... where did you come from, a scotch ad?"
It has separate pockets for condoms, lubricants and body iD tags.. oh, and aqua masks built into the hoodies,, in case ya dare to go in the water.... or the shower..
ROFL!!
There are no stars, only stripes. Those pants look uncomfortable, especially considering the amount of time they'll be wearing them for the open ceremonies. And white pants? Keeping them crisp looking and clean isn't going to be easy.
The first thing that struck me visually is those short fitted blazers. How often do you see athletes wearing short, fitted blazers? Now there's the Russian flag wannabee shirts and that huge Ralph Lauren logo where there should be some sort of symbol that represents the US.
Weird. Russian stripes and no stars. Whoever approved of it?
Also, not smiling....hard for those boys to look tough when the are wearing high waters and those mom shoes!
Agree on all points. Dreadful design, especially the grotesque oversized Ralph Lauren logo that’s completely out of place on a U.S. national team uniform. The sockless multi-color shoes with bare ankles are also particularly tasteless. Whoever approved this design should be fired.
Ha, ha, they put women’s clothes on men. I guess that way they can identify as a woman on a moment’s notice.
About those sockless multi-colored shoes with bare ankles? Anyone who has ever lived in an area where there’s the threat of diseases which are spread by mosquitoes knows to always wear socks.
Not sure but I think the problem was that the uniforms were not made in the USA
You are CORRECT thank you for reminding me!!! I think they NEED to dump POLO!!!!
I bet your grandparents thought the same about your choice of clothing. Times they are a changin, or something like that. Towards Metrosexualism!
Yes the logo is pretty “capitalist” of them. Must have given them a cut rate deal to get it on the jersey. That or someone making the decision is suddenly very rich.
I believe that these will be the first Olympics, summer or winter, that I do not plan to see since they have been televised live; can’t remember when that started... can’t remember... 1956? 1960??
...cause they're all freakin' Spetsnaz anyway.
Well, that's what I heard.
I don’t even see Millennial metrosexual girly-men wearing that kind of stuff. You might as well hang a sign around your neck saying “I puff pud.”
