When the Republican National Convention delegates erupted in applause in response to Donald Trump's promise "to protect our LGBT citizens from the violence and oppression of a hateful foreign ideology" in his acceptance speech, it had more to do with anti-Muslim bias than protecting LGBTQ Americans.
