Pokémon Go mania has turned a corner it has reached the point of ridiculousness. The game is making people do nutty, dangerous, and even life-threatening things.
The augmented reality mobile game is sending players all over the place as they try to catch the crazy creatures. These people might be in a park or on private property in a church or in your bathroom.
The stories are getting more outrageous and outlandish. The upside of the game is that its getting people moving. They are actually walking around outside. They are running. They are breathing fresh air (except when its like a sauna outside). The downside is that the quests to catch Pokémon have been linked to all sorts of mishaps, from criminal incidents to car crashes.
Two recent examples: An Auburn, New York, man was playing the game while driving and ran into a tree. And a Cincinnati woman admitted to climbing the fence at Paul Brown Stadium, home of the NFLs Cincinnati Bengals, to catch Pokémon last week. She was arrested and charged with criminal trespassing.
The stories are getting more outrageous and outlandish by the day.
Here are some more of the recent ones:

Youngun’s these days are a ridiculous bunch of loons being led to slaughter. There’s little hope for their future.
Just wait til Tesla enables an auto-Pokemon mode for its cars.
Aw, stupid people are stupid. I play with my older kids and it is super fun. We don’t do dumb things. Think of all the young people motivated to play at night instead of many worse things they could be doing. Don’t be an old fogie, try it. It’s a fun evening when we go out and do this.
Remember when people in the 1860s used to go out in pairs on a summer evening and go buggy riding?? Old folks said it could overtire the horses, and even lead to s e x!!!!! What is the youth of today coming to, said by every older person since dinosaurs roamed the earth.
If you seen a large crowd of kids wandering around in circles with their faces focused on their smartphones, they are all hunting pokeman.
Agree. Marie Antoinette and I get out walking a LOT suddenly. Lots of people meeting and greeting at hotspots!
most of the players are old enough to drive, that’s the scary part.
Funny thing though — “kids” seem to get more and more daring with each new generation. The bar is lowered with each generation.
They certainly have no idea what is taking place in their country.
‘Global Warming’, ‘Going Green’, “Social ‘Justice’”, etc. all made for fools and the unwise. Keeps them occupied and away from critical thinking.
Just waiting to hear about people sneaking into Area 51 to play this game.
Pokémon Go is turning into MTV’s JACKASS.
What do you get for pretending the danger’s not real?
Meek and obedient you follow the leader down well trodden corridors into the valley of steel.
That song was written for the mushy headed masses caught up in trends such as this.
I saw my first herd of 15-something boys this afternoon. They were very clean cut young fellows.
“Just waiting to hear about people sneaking into Area 51 to play this game.”
I thought about that. Since I live in NV I was wondering how long until some people go get stuck somewhere really remote and die... except this thing requires a cellular connection. There is no cellular coverage in LARGE areas of Nevada, including Area 51.
I was sitting in a little park recently taking a break from my bicycle ride. A car pulled up and a young couple got out and both of them staring at their phones started walking towards the other end of the park. they walked to the back of the park where its a fenced dead end and turned and still staring at their phones walked back to their car got in and drove away. I realized then that they were playing the Pokemon thing.
I got to thinking, in my day that would be a pretty stupid thing to do on a date. We actually knew how to show a girl a good time when I was that age, Not walk around with our faces glued to a screen. How’s he gonna ever get any nookie that way?
I had a good chuckle to myself right then and I just shook my head and laughed.
Are you talking about cell phone games or riding bicycles? Because they said all the same things about those.
I humbly suggest all FReepers get the Pokeman Go app. Don’t do stupid things like these people do, but if you bump into one, grab it. There is a market for these idiotic things. Free money.
“Hows he gonna ever get any nookie that way?”
Well he could probably get her to some pretty out of the way places... ‘looking for pokemon’ could be a new euphemism.
