Trump starts considering Cabinet
The Hill ^ | 23 Jul 2016 | Alexander Bolton

Posted on 07/23/2016 4:17:53 PM PDT by mandaladon

CLEVELAND — Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is already focused on picking people for his future Cabinet.

A day before accepting his party’s nomination and completing an astonishing political rise that has taken him to the heights of the Republican Party’s power, Trump met with his inner circle at the Cleveland Westin to discuss his possible transition.

Eric Trump told The Hill that his father is determined to put together a Cabinet that can help him turn around the country. He suggested his father would look to the private sector to find effective leadership for government.

“You have to have the best people, and you have to put those people in charge, and those people have to be the best at what they do, and that’s going to be my father’s message,” Trump said.

“If we’re going to have the biggest deals in the world, which are trade deals, why not have the best guys negotiate this? Why not have the Carl Icahns or the top guys of Wall Street?” he added. “It’s why they’re worth millions and billions of dollars. It’s because they’re tough and they’re shrewd.”

Donald Trump recently floated former Goldman Sachs executive Steve Mnuchin as a possible choice to head the Treasury Department, a development first reported by Fortune. Mnuchin serves as the national finance chairman of his campaign.

Icahn, one of the nation’s savviest investors, said last year he was not interested in heading Treasury.

“You’ll probably see a lot of people who are outside traditional Washington, D.C.,” Eric Trump added. “The people who are in there right now haven’t exactly done this country wonders.”

My understanding is that these various agencies are all under the Executive branch. They are funded by Congress, but the President/Executive has the power to appoint his Cabinet. Each Cabinet officer has a department, hence an agency (or two or three) under him. It is my understanding that the Prez can eliminate these.... however, back in the 60’s and 70’s, the Excecutive may have enlisted Congress to make law establishing them, so may need another to abolish.

I believe it is true that Congress has supposed “oversight” function over the Executive agencies. (Which they have failed to exercise.)

It is also my understanding that Congress has its own agencies and bureaucracies which adds another layer. However, I could certainly be wrong about that.

I can not believe you have not heard of him.

He was formerly on Sen. Sessions staff.

Here is a tweet from Ann Coulter: More of the brilliant Stephen Miller, Trump advisor, on CNN today - bit.ly/1MLEzsM

As people move from dependence to self reliance in some cases, yes, but with a definite ramp-down plan and date of disassembly.

I noticed that too and had the same question about the wisdom of putting Goldman Sachs back into continuing charge.

Once a Prez appoints a Fed Chairman, I don’t think he can easily get rid of him.

Remove all junk food from the food stamp program.
~ ~ ~ ~

Good one! And let them not be able to have steak and expensive boxed/frozen items on the tax payer dime.

Let there be STAPLES! Beans, grains, fresh, canned, frozen veggies and fruit, dairy, meat, fish and chicken...with parameters clearly defined on all foods.

I would like his whole cabinet flushed out by day one

dang autocorrect.... I’m assuming you meant “fleshed”.... ;-D

Lyin’ Ted is what is flushed....

Anyway, I like your ideas, but hope the whole “Czar” thing can disappear. Smacks too much of Power Elitism for my taste. FWIW.

3) if sooner or later the STATES understand their sovereign role under the Constitution, then we are truly on our way to a rebirth of freedom in America.
~ ~ ~ ~

You are, IMHO, most emphatically correct!

We need to abolish the 17th amendment! We need to once more somehow restore the input and voice that the Sovereign States were intended to have.

The amendment now calls for election of Senators by the people. It originally was deeply thought through by the Founders as being necessary to elect them by the State Legislatures. There were some problems with that, so it was somewhat easy for the power elite to get Amendment 17 changed to direct election, rather than corrected so that abuses at the state level could not be as egregious. But it has caused real damage to our system for us to have direct election.

Sorry. I like inside baseball as much as any FReeper here, but I have not looked at who the various senatorial staff are.

I also confess, I haven’t gotten into tweeting - do you have another link for info on him by any chance? Thanks.

We need the 17th Amendment repealed, but states asserting their constitutional sovereignty goes much further than the 17A.

States MUST start NOW nullifying unconstitutional federal acts which by definition are acts of tyranny. Why don’t the states do it? Many reasons including misunderstanding of their constitutional sovereignty. But the MAIN reason is the state governors and officials are AFRAID of losing their federal funding. They are DEPENDENT on the feds just as planned.

States must LOOSE themselves from slavish financial dependence on the feds which keeps them from asserting their constitutional sovereignty and freedom from tyranny. The truth is, if states kept their government limited and kept their market economy free from government interference, soon that state would be financially stronger than the bankrupt feds.

America was founded on INDEPENDENCE, not slavish dependence on the central government. Our country literally began with the DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE. May we through our states once again DECLARE financial INDEPENDENCE from the feds and independence from unconstitutional federal acts of tyranny.

Antarctica! Let the U.N. discuss man made global warming all they want to in Antarctica. Plus, have worldwide conservatives create their own U.N. with commonsense solutions on all of the issues. A pro-conservative U.N. would get the job done, as opposed to the ongoing pro-leftist U.N., with all of their problems.
