CLEVELAND Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is already focused on picking people for his future Cabinet.
A day before accepting his partys nomination and completing an astonishing political rise that has taken him to the heights of the Republican Partys power, Trump met with his inner circle at the Cleveland Westin to discuss his possible transition.
Eric Trump told The Hill that his father is determined to put together a Cabinet that can help him turn around the country. He suggested his father would look to the private sector to find effective leadership for government.
You have to have the best people, and you have to put those people in charge, and those people have to be the best at what they do, and thats going to be my fathers message, Trump said.
If were going to have the biggest deals in the world, which are trade deals, why not have the best guys negotiate this? Why not have the Carl Icahns or the top guys of Wall Street? he added. Its why theyre worth millions and billions of dollars. Its because theyre tough and theyre shrewd.
Donald Trump recently floated former Goldman Sachs executive Steve Mnuchin as a possible choice to head the Treasury Department, a development first reported by Fortune. Mnuchin serves as the national finance chairman of his campaign.
Icahn, one of the nations savviest investors, said last year he was not interested in heading Treasury.
Youll probably see a lot of people who are outside traditional Washington, D.C., Eric Trump added. The people who are in there right now havent exactly done this country wonders.

Right! It could be a fraction of it’s current size if the gov didn’t control and regulate everything you see, touch, buy or eat.
They’ll choose me in an act of peace, love, and understanding. (Maniacal laughter) Oh, yes they will...
“Time for some other country to host the UN. They need to move, how about Iceland, Greenland, Australia or Germany, perhaps China?”
Oh Hell yes!
Put it in Tehran
Somalia!
The U.N. can show the people there they care!
The economy is best helped by government getting OUT of the way and letting the market economy FREE from government interference do what it does best: create opportunity, jobs, and wealth. As Reagan said in 1980, government isn’t the solution, government IS the problem.
The key is seeing that the future of our country as a free and thriving America is putting the federal government under the constitutional Rule of Law. If Trump 1) see that and 2) dedicates himself to seeing that happen, AND 3) if sooner or later the STATES understand their sovereign role under the Constitution, then we are truly on our way to a rebirth of freedom in America.
The whole of these administrative agencies, known as the "Administrative State" AKA the "Regulatory State" is wholly unconstitutional and must be totally dismantled.
Lagos Nigeria would also be a good place
I would go with Early American”...well you are on the right track. The Founders were brilliant in putting together a Constitution that has worked for over two hundred years. Keep it that way, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”
See post # 40.
Please make him eight feet tall. Com’on you can do it if you try!
Well if the departments are unconstitutional which they are, and Trump can make a reasonable constitutionally-based argument showing such, then I see nothing in the Constitution that would prevent him from shutting these blood-sucking cabinet departments down.
Not sure of the Congressional role in the creation of these cabinet departments. If they have some role and there’s some reason to think they should be included in their dismantling, then Trump should at least try to get it through Congress I guess. But if Congress refuses and he has a strong case for each department being unconstitutional, then he has a strong case for shutting them down even without Congressional support and he should do it.
Remember the Supreme law of the Land is the Constitution and ONLY those federal laws PURSUANT to the Constitution are valid laws (Art VI, Cl 2, U.S. Constitution).
Trump should start by eliminating cabinet positions.
“He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance.” - list of grievances; Declaration.
Think of what the U.N. could do for their economy if they moved their NY world headquarters to Lagos Nigeria! A win win.
