The police officer who shot and killed an unarmed man during a brief scuffle in 2014 has retired from the agency but will continue to collect half of his final salary tax-free for the remainder of his life.
Officer Wallace Jensen, 33, who worked at the police department for eight years, received industrial disability retirement, effective this April, said police Chief Allwyn Brown.
Jensen stands to earn $70,700 annually from the disability retirement, according to CalPERS, and will be eligible for cost of living increases.
Only police and firefighters are eligible for industrial disability retirement, which must be signed off by a doctor, according to Kim Greer, a risk assessment manager for the city. Recipients can begin collecting payment the first day they are no longer employed. Sworn personnel can also qualify for a cash payment from the city for their injury.

I went into the wrong profession.
Jeezus. Pass the Academy, kill someone, be set for life.
Bad optics here. And, scary.
LOL! The taxchumps in Richmond, Whackfornistan, are taking it in the shorts BIGTIME.
The taxchumps also had to spring for body cameras. :)

You left out the part where you get attacked when the perp grabs for your gun.
You don't 'scuffle' with a policeman if you want to live.
Lesson learned children, don’t resist arrest!
“Jeezus. Pass the Academy, kill someone, be set for life.”
Or, work a career where at any given moment you can be ambushed, shot, beaten, and if ever have to hurt/shoot/kill one of obummer’s sons, you have the BLM crowd and others after you and your families life and freedom. (See Ferguson and Officer Wilson. . .even when the facts are clear. . .the threat will never go away as that man is living with a death sentence. . .
There were four witnesses. If it was a decent shoot, why did he need to be declared mentally disabled for life due to a trauma on duty? If he was that delicate, shouldn’t he have been screened out?
I don’t have the facts, of course, and I’m usually sympathetic to the police (although I’ve met some jerks on occasion). But, this sounds a lot more like the idiot in Florida who shot a supine therapist with his hands in the air than like Ferguson and Officer Wilson, where the officer was both justified and vilified, and had to leave the force.
You and me both
The former LEO that paralyzed SureshbaI Patel in Alabama should be hunted.
My son works as a fireman. They get an accident that’s involving dead people, they can claim ptsd. That’s where we’re headed, or at.
A “brief” scuffle ..... they were fighting over each others underwear....?
Bait and switch.
This is the curse of the blue. No way these disability comp packages can be justified. As the numbers continue to pile up, there will be an explosion of citizen sentiment and the blue ones might just lose it all. The greed stinks to high hell.
Well this guy can never work in any PD in the Bay Area. The part of Richmond he was patrolling is at the edges of a no go zone. You can find thousands there that will claim they say something that will make a policeman look bad
This officer benefits from the ridiculous contracts that California unions seem to be able to pull off. I feel sorry for him...he will always second guess himself
Cut it out
Unless he moves to a Montana trout stream and has his mail sent to a forwarding service.
Hey that part of Richmind has the same kind of witness that Mike Brown had in his buddy
OK. I got carried away. I’m sorry if any were offended.
