Art Laffer: Trump Should Win Easily
weeklystandard.com ^ | JUL 19, 2016 | FRED BARNES

Art Laffer is a famous economist, one of the brains behind President Ronald Reagan's supply-side tax cuts in 1981. But he was also a political adviser to Reagan and other presidential candidates. Based on history rather than polls or demographics, he insists Donald Trump will win the presidential race—and win easily.

History is an argument not often heard in presidential elections except in one case: the likelihood that after one party holds the White House for eight years, that party probably won't win four more years. The one exception in the past half-century was the election of George H.W. Bush in 1988 after eight years of the Reagan presidency.

But Laffer doesn't rely heavily on that case. Instead, he cites six historical parallels, comparisons, or developments that he says point inescapably to a Trump victory over Hillary Clinton in November.

The first is what Laffer calls "1979-1980: How the Reagan Revolution Began." Reagan "was disrespected and abused by significant segment of the Republican establishment," Laffer notes. "The torrent of anti-Reagan epithets never stopped."

Laffer's conclusion: "In other words, just like today in re Donald Trump, the party's cognoscenti were forecasting a huge Reagan defeat that would carry with it large numbers of House members and senators." But Reagan won in a landslide. "That Reagan saga of 1980 seems a lot like the Trump story today."

The second is the economy. "For Hillary Clinton, the Obama record on the economy will be her biggest negative come November," according to Laffer. "And the very fact that she actually sought out and embraces this legacy speaks volumes about her judgment."

It's a "challenge for the incumbent party to maintain the White House…even when a president's term ends on a high note," Laffer says. But when it ends with a weak economy, it's almost impossible. And the economy in the eighth year of the Obama presidency is indeed weak.

"This Obama economy really isn't a recovery, let alone a strong recovery, as one would expect should have happened following the devastating collapse of the Great Recession," Laffer says. "Why would Hillary Clinton want to run on the Obama record? It's beyond me."

Number three: the mood of the country. There's "a downside to being a Democratic insider and establishment figure today," Laffer says. "When the electorate is unhappy with the direction the country is heading," Hillary Clinton "will be blamed right along with the president."

Although the article is about Laffer's take on the upcoming election, it triggered some thoughts I have on the Laffer Curve if anyone feels like a little analysis. I love the curve but I hate the terminology...

Laffer and Reagan brought us an unprecedented and historic 25 years of growth and prosperity until the Left finally shut it down.

Tax cuts are a must, but we need to flip the reasoning - we need to change the terminology and the paradigm in all of this. Have you noticed that terms and phrases used by the Right and the Left are those engineered by government and parroted by the Leftist MSM? Examples are “supply side” and “revenue”. They are terms and phrases defined and applied solely from the viewpoint of government, not the American individual. Same with judicial opinions since around the 1900’s. You never see a court’s decision anymore based on the interest of the individual citizen but the “public interest” which is nothing other than “government interest.”

So I hate acquiescing to terms like “supply side” and “revenue” in this context because they are terms solely from the viewpoint of government, not the individual. And yet the Constitution, the Law of the Land, and the Declaration of Independence, the values from which the Constitution was derived, is focused primarily on individual interest. America is about protecting the individual, his freedom and interests, NOT about government interest.

“Supply side” says cutting taxes is justifiable because it will actually increase government “supply” and government “revenue”. And although that is true, it is NOT the JUSTIFICATION for cutting taxes. Cutting taxes is justifiable because individuals have the right to their property which includes their earnings. The brain-damaged Leftist government actually think the wages you earn belong to the government. And you have the right to keep your wages only to the extent it can be shown that government somehow benefits. Hogwash. I couldn’t care less about stupid government’s supply. And as far as “revenue” goes, the only revenue that matters is OUR revenue - your revenue and my revenue, not government revenue.

We are smack dab in the center of Orwell’s prophetic “1984”. One of the things I hope this Trump Movement triggers is a focused change in terminology and thinking back to the interests of the individual and away from government self-interest, political correctness, government greed, and government corruption.

God bless you, God bless Trump, and God bless America.

Laffer has been around long enough that he should know and expect the Rats will try every election fraud trick known to man.

Apparently, Laffer isn’t taking into account widespread democrat voter cheating at the polls, which has been a feature of the last two national elections.

Hillary’s voters will all vote twice whenever possible and illegal aliens will each cast as many votes as he/she can.

This can’t be true. The nightly news tells us it’s Hillarys turn, the nightly “comedy” shows tells us she has a 75% chance of winning. And of course, almost ALL large print publications say she will win in a landslide.

I guess it’s time to just give up and not vote at all.

I have noted the two term trend in the past. Since Truman, each party got two presidential terms each. Except for the Reagan era. Reagan beat the weak Jimmy Carter, and his greatness enabled a term for the weak GHW Bush. Reagan was a colossus astride the tide of history. Obama is by no means anywhere near Reagan’s class.

I sure hope so. I’ll be at the polls doing my part. I voted for Cruz in the primaries but I’m not going to sit around and piss and moan about it. I’m going to do everything I can to keep that commie ***** Clintoon out of the White House.

But with the help of organizations such as “True The Vote” voter fraud has met its match.

If my memory serves me correctly, Laffer was sure that Romney was going to win in 2012.

Yet this is why organizations such as True The Vote have been fighting and preventing.

Based upon his first term bozo shouldn’t have gotten a second. I believe Trump will win and possibly by a “surprising” amount but I wouldn’t bet my life on it...or even the farm. When bozo got re elected I stopped believing in the America I was born into.

Looking at each state and to what extent it is in play; I believe that Trump will win with over 300 electoral votes. I think Pennsylvania is the key. Trump is doing well there and I think he will take it. With PA, Trump has many paths to victory and Hillary’s paths go up in smoke quickly. Trump could effectively be the winner by the time the Central time states close their polls.

There was no way Odungo deserved a second term in ‘12, Romney should have won. I have seen no serious analysis of why Obummer got a second term, except Romney was a poor candidate. But, Odingo was worse.

I vaguely remember Laffer saying Romney would win, or maybe it was McCain.

Was watching Fox News this morning, and The Shrew was on there - some sort of townhall with that jack-ape she just picked for VP. I was struck by how clownish they both look and sound - especially this Kaine guy. Truly the Dems have never run a more flawed candidate.

As long as Trump doesn't outclown them, I think he's got a good chance. But anyone that thinks he will "win easily" is deluding themselves. The Democrats have a huge and growing demographic advantage. Republicans start out, by default, at about a 6 point disadvantage.

Another good sign is this Wikileaks thing. That could have some real impact, especially if, as promised, additional leaks are coming.

The last time I saw Art Laffer, it was when Fox News ran that contest where the winner would get a show worn, frilly pair of Megyn Kelly’s sexy panties, signed by Brit Hume and Art Laffer, and presented at a special ceremony hosted by Stu Varney and the Stu Varney Dancers.

That is the very reason 2024 is so important. Bush turned the Reagan Revolution into a mere speed bump on the Road to Ruin. We and Trump cannot let that happen again. The Trump Movement MUST be more that an eight-year speed-bump/slow-down in the inexorable slide to the Left and into the abyss of tyranny and totalitarianism.

That is why I clamored for a Trump VP who is ready, willing, and able to walk into the WH in 2024 to continue/finish the job Trump has started by dismantling 80%+ of the mostly unconstitutional $4 trillion central government including most unconstitutional cabinet positions and ALL of the unconstitutional Administrative/Regulatory State. The Constitution must again be the Supreme Law of the Land over the feds, which is the definition of individual and political liberty in America. Short of that, the Trump Movement will not amount to much more than a drive-by disruption on the Road to Serfdom, as Hayek put it.

Dunno if Pence is that guy, but it done’t seem like it to me. Something’s got to happen, either a change in VP or something else between now and 2024 to ensure this thing gets done and we, the American People actually WIN over federal tyranny.
