Two men are being held in connection with the fatal shooting of a Kansas City, KS police captain, KCTV5 has learned.
Prosecutor Jerome Gorman says Jamaal Lewis and Daqon Sipple, the men in jail in connection with Capt. Robert Melton's death, may not be charged until Thursday. Police say they are not looking for any other suspects at this time.
Lewis, 20, was booked late Tuesday night in Wyandotte County jail on first-degree murder. Sipple, 18, was booked hours earlier on aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer and use of a deadly weapon.
KCTV5 spoke to Clarette Monroe, the mother of Lewis.
She says don't rush to judgment yet.
"He's not a bad kid," Monroe said. "He's hanging out with a rough crowd. He has no record and has never been arrested. People should not rush to judgment. Don't do that."
Jalelisa Sipple, the sister of Daqon Sipple, also spoke to KCTV5. She echoed Monroe's comments.
"The only thing I want people to know is that the picture that's being painted is not actually him," she said. "Which is what most people know, everybody that knows him knows that he's not that kind of kid."
KCTV5 examined Lewis' and Sipple's backgrounds. Searches in Kansas and Missouri revealed clean records. However, juvenile records are sealed.
Police said there was a drive-by shooting at Second Street and Edgerton Road about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and officers responded. Melton found both the suspects at 22nd Street and Haskell Avenue about 2 p.m.
Before Melton could get out of his vehicle, someone opened fire through his window, hitting Melton several times, Zeigler said.
They are lucky, started killing so early that theirife sentences will be longer.
New meat for prisoners.
You forgot “looking forward to starting college this fall.” But maybe you need to be killed for attackng an officer for that one to work.
Didn’t you forget Skittles, too?
Don’t chu knows? Posin’ for d’ camera and taking a bad-ass mug shot increased dey street cred, sheeeeeei+!
My first thought, too. Don’t look human.
He was the kind of kid who was willing to fire shots into an apartment building, not caring who he hit.
There won't be a rush to judgment. Their trial and conviction will take place in due course. But unfortunately, it being Kansas, there will be no rush to execution either.

“He’s not a bad kid,”
Well, except for the whole muderer thing.
I thougth KCK was the good part? KCMO is supposed to be the bad part of KC.
Both did not act on ideology, but instead had a history of mental illness.
Being a cop and coming up on a pair like This ?
You gotta have something
BIG IN YOUR BVD’S!
I got your Back Big Blue.
Obviously totally innocent, such kind looking gentlemen ... look the type who’d give the shirt off their backs and such, good Samaritans, you know.
There are alot of very nice suburbs on the Kansas side, which have incorporated into their own cities. And alot of poor KCK is ‘white trash’ which isn’t nearly as violent as KCMO’s Detroit like areas. But this particular part of KCK is housing projects and pretty bad.
Loving father of 2 little girls? Not that I know if they had kids, it simply fits the pattern. We got any pictures of them in caps and gowns?
That seems to be the easiest way to qualify for some presidential face time, just have your jobless, fatherless son off a cop, or die trying. It’s like hitting the Lottery!
Thanks for posting. Condolences to family and friends of Capt. Robert Melton. R.I.P., sir. Thanks.
love
Most, actually.
Maybe a "clerical error" will assign Milli and Vanilli cells in the Aryan Brotherhood wing.
Post #17 ~ Yeah...they really do look like Zombies!
Those are two of most fugly mug shots I have ever seen.
What the hell is going on out there??
Non-prescription medication?
If/when they are proven to murderers, they should be locked in the same tiny cage; fed only stale bread and water, and pissed on hourly for the rest of their miserable lives.
